175$/month dedicated servers: what have you got?
Currently we're having so many issues with MySQL timing out, going away, locking up and whatnot.
Upgrading our stores is costing me days, and then it is not done anyway as server keeps timing out or other crap. I've been patient for a few years, even though we;'ve had big issues. Today i found some stuff went haywire agauin costing us hundreds if not thousands of dollars over the weekend. We're kinda done with it. Who has good servers that are also fast when accessed through NL, that allow us to TESTupgrade our store software. In short: who can give us a day's access, including SSH and almost every module installed to be able to run Magento stores. php 5.2.10, mysql 5.0.51 apache 1.3.41 ram 6gb Xeon 3.0Ghz If you need phpinfo information please contact me and i will send you the link:[email protected] |
If your hosting can costs you 1000's of dollar lose over the weekend one would think you would have a bigger budget then $175 for your dedicated server?
That's my opinion. Check out webair for your hosting needs. |
if you make a thousand, it does not mean you make a lot of money in drugstore items. That's what makes it even worse, advertising costs based on little margins with a server that is not 100% = trouble in the wallet.

Besides that: We look at what server we get for the few visitors we have. We use almost no bandwidth, what usually makes the high costs of servers. No?
We're well passed the minimum requirements for Magento, yet it's hardly functioning. |
You should totally contact Matt at Amerinoc.
I'm certain he can drum something up for you. I'm myself along time customer and couldn't be happier. Use the "live sales chat" function up in the right hand corner and explain what you need. I'm certain you can be up and running very quickly. |
We're having servers both at webair and phatservers already. Since 2001 or so.

Maybe the software is the issue, not the server.

If you are setting up a lot of magento stores on one server, you can run into issues because of how many tables get written into the database with installation, all of the products, etc.
I did some freelance work for a guy that wanted some stores on a cheap bluehost shared server and had some errors about too many rows or something (I forget the exact error as it was a while back) using their servers, turns out you can only fit two stores max per bluehost account. The guy was on a budget because he was just starting out and didn't want to spend the cash on a higher end dedicated server so he just got another account, moved some stores to the newer server and the issue went away. I would call webair/phatservers, etc and see if the issue is that you have too many stores writing too much data for the server to handle. I clicked on your banner and you have a lot of stores lol. I don't know your setup, just sharing my experience in hopes it will help. Best of luck. |
By the way, I am not saying webairs or phatservers servers are cheap, I don't know what your setup is or how old your boxes are as you stated you had accts there since 01. Magento does write a shitload of tables for installation, prods etc though and with all of your stores you may need an upgrade or to move some to another box. No offence webair or phatservers!

Mike, i will hit you up in two hours from now when my toddler is in bed.
Maybe you can free up some other dedicated box to see if we can easily upgrade our dbase there? When updated we can move it back to our box and go from there maybe? Magento 1.5 is a lot more resource friendly so I read. I'll icq you shortly. |
Alex, yes i am dutch. please send me details to [email protected]
I do not know a lot about servers though, so managed is key. About the other remarks: - we have many stores yes, but these are on one admin, so that does not matter a lot - we have very few visitors (hundreds, not thousands), all targeted. There's other magento users have up to 100k / daily with 100k+ products on equal servers. We only have 12.000 or so products on 200-500 users daily. It all seems to be about the right settings and up to date modules. |
