With news that Rep. Anthony Weiner was apparently sending Twitter messages (and advice) to porn star Ginger Lee, we're once again faced with an increasingly familiar paradigm: porn stars in politics. While Lee finds herself caught up in a political scandal, some porn stars have gone so far as to run for office (and even win).

Before she checked in with Dr. Drew on Celebrity Rehab, Mary Carey shot to fame as one of the many candidates for California governor during the 2003 recall election. She ran again in 2006, but dropped out (Arnold Schwarzenegger won both times).

Considering that the state of Nevada just saw GOP Sen. John Ensign fall from grace over an affair, we think it's perfectly reasonable that porn star Mimi Miyagi ran for governor of the state back in 2006. (Here, she's pictured filling out paperwork to get in the race). If prostitution is legal in parts of Nevada, then what's to stop an adult star from running the whole show?

After Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) was caught up in the D.C. madame sex scandal, porn star Stormy Daniels decided to test the 2010 campaign waters with a "listening tour" of her home state (Daniels was not involved in the scandal). Her would-be senatorial campaign was shaken up when a bomb exploded in her political adviser's car.
