Refund, hosting and stupid GO fucking Daddy

Well, I've heard dozen times that godaddy service sucks but from some reason I was ignoring that. So what happened? I am managing website for my friend (skateboarding portal and online shop for skateboarding merchandise) that was hosted on go daddy.

2 days ago I was watching movie and email popup notification came telling me that service is canceled (with info that if this happened in error, I should contact them ASAP). WTF? On same day I've renewed hosting account. After dozen emails sent to them telling them that it was mistake, and that I wasn't canceling anything, their only answer (except dozen emails asking for pins, confirmations and stuff) is that they didn't canceled anything and it was done by our side. ...ok, I've asked them to send me time of cancelation and IP address where from that request came, but guess what...they don't have that info and can't bring site back.

Now it comes best part. ...actually they can bring site back but fee is $150.

Since there is no solution,my friend will pay those $150 so he can backup data and go to another hosting company, and I was wondering is there a way for him to ask for refund (chargeback or whatever) of those $150.

thank you

What is the $150 fee for? Are you sure they're not playing net cop and have cancelled the hosting because they don't like the site?

Adraco 06-08-2011 05:34 AM

Never had such problems myself at Godaddy but heard others with similar stories. My contact guy there even tells me that they can transfer domains between accounts without owner authorization by some manual override.

I can however, as always, recommend Amerinoc. Never had any problems there at all, in fact, they keep me in business!

They should say so but there was nothing problematic there. Just site with info from local sk8 scene and zen cart shop.Anyway, 150 is restoration fee, whatever that is.

Is it possible to ask for a refund of that fee. I don't know what I can do as a customer and what are my rights.

bns666 06-08-2011 06:11 AM

godaddy is for domains only

Alex69 06-08-2011 06:13 AM

godaddy is only good for registering domains

AnimeFevers 06-08-2011 06:19 AM

Yes stay clear of godaddy hosting, so many good ones out there just ask others for opinions :)

I use godaddy for domains only.

Why do you think you'd have any right to get a refund on that fee or how are you going to try to charge it back? Your friend is free to choose whther or not to pay it, and if he deciddes to pay it it is for a service he agreed to pay for. There would not be any customer rights here to protect you, you choose a service, paid for it and should honor that.

If you tried to charge it back, I assume Godaddy's accounting department has fought many chargebacks before and have it pretty well figured out how to fight those.

Just pay it and forget it. As long as you learn not to use them again.

Only reason for that is that they can't give a proof who deleted hosting account. So if it is our fault, show us that and that's ok. but they can't give any proof and they are asking 150 .

dont host at ur registrar, its like u dont shit where u eat.

get another host,

stach14 06-08-2011 12:58 PM

Not much of a choice but to pay the money if you want your files back. Might want to keep a local backup in the future. But of course select a hosting company that specializes in actual hosting and not domain name registering and you might have better results. If you have any questions on that front I can definately help you out.

JamesGw 06-08-2011 01:16 PM

Get your site back and then stop payment on the $150. That'll show em >[

2intense 06-08-2011 01:21 PM

godaddy sucks

glowlite 06-08-2011 02:40 PM

My guess is the 1st several emails GD sent didn't get read. They would have notified you via email if there was not a valid payment method attached to your hosting/domain/whatever.

After 3 failed billing attempts and no response to their emails you're toast. As it should be.

critical 06-08-2011 02:46 PM

We would love to host the sites! Contact me if you like.

EZRhino 06-08-2011 03:07 PM

Charge it back. GoDaddy sucks for domains and hosting. It would be good customer service to help you bring the site back up since they cant prove you canceled the service. But to charge you $150 for their mistake is stupid. I know $150 doesn't sound like much but small business owners need to make every dollar count. And shit like this doesn't help in this economy.

femdomdestiny 06-08-2011 03:40 PM

How to do chargeback.?They have asked for last 4 digits of card. There is no such service to choos from list on their site.

CYF 06-08-2011 03:47 PM

Wow, that sucks man. I try to use Godaddy as little as possible. Don't you guys have offsite backups?

If you're still looking for other hosting, please see my sig for coupons :thumbsup

A chargeback is done through the [your] issuing bank of the card.

InfoGuy 06-08-2011 04:10 PM

Try contacting President /@t/ GoDaddy (dot) com and explain that it was their error before paying the $150.

$150 is a lot of beans when the customer was probably paying $15 a month for his hosting...

OP, ask them to explain exactly what the charge is for. Is it because the account was disabled due to non payment? Is it because they think the customer requested it be cancelled and it's to cover them finding the backup? etc. Find out why they're assessing you such a high fee.

marlboroack 06-08-2011 08:01 PM

Godaddys hosting is so fucking bad. They didn't even refund me.

FreeHugeMovies 06-08-2011 09:46 PM

You guys never learn.

Sausage 06-08-2011 10:41 PM

You can't take anyone who uses Godaddy, or any of the other crap cheap hosts like hostgator, dreamhost etc seriously. I avoid doing biz with them because odds are they are either not around for the long term, or are just taking the piss.

That's pretty much what I thought to begin with. You're talking out your ass moron. Each and every item within your GD account has an assigned payment method. It you can't find the "last 4" on a per item basis then you DO NOT have access to the actual owners account.

You can take me serious Lance.

Internet User 06-09-2011 02:17 AM

sue them

Vjo 06-09-2011 02:35 AM

People go to GD for the cheap first reg but, you do hear horror stories. Their interface is heavy upsell and intentional confusion. Would never use them again. Too much of a pain.

I love Moniker. Best in the biz.

They do this with domains as well. I don't know why anyone registers domains through them. Read their TOS.

I know of 3 people that had their domains held hostage cause they were 'reported' for spamming. They were sending out to their subscribers.

Sure this was a few years ago but they were doing it.
