Netflix tip and question

ctrl+alt+shift+m lets YOU pick the quality instead of them fucking adjusting it all over the place .... now, the question is, how do I get them to stop throttling me?? It takes maybe 5 minutes to buffer 3600 quality and I am on a ten meg line.... I read that the stupid shit like x cube and game box aren't capped, can I make it think I am connecting from a gaming system??

Thanks !!!

CYF 06-06-2011 01:29 PM

they "cap" it at the fastest your line can handle. If your connection can't handle any faster it won't go any faster.

The Wii/game boxes have lower quality than the regular streaming if I remember right.

I'm not very impressed with the quality of Netflix streaming, Hulu blows it away. But both are completely different services and are worth the nine dollars a month, just sucks Netflix can't continually stream high-quality.

oh, if this is at the hotel with the shitty internet then that's probably the best you're going to get.

I love Netflix. For $9 a month, it's incredible value. What I don't get is why they go back and forth on what they stream and what they offer on DVD. For example, I've been a huge James Bond fan since I was a kid. For about 3 weeks... maybe a month... they had about a dozen 007 flicks for instant streaming. I had all of them in my instant queue. Suddenly, they're gone from my queue, and now I have to go back to getting them on DVD... which I won't. But, I don't get why they do that. They did the same thing with "Rosemary's Baby". Seems to me they lose money on DVDs with having to pay for postage both ways. At one point, I was getting 2 to 3 DVDs per week... the postage alone had to kill their profits for those months.

I was reading that they throttle dvd shipments, too... it's funny.. users who request a lot of dvds (actually try to use the service) end up with huge wait times while if you only ask for 1/4 as many as you're allowed to, they come right away

I have had the same issue, on my ps3 I get up to HD streams within about 15 seconds but on the PC it never gets to that quality on the exact same connection (10 mbps)

All has to do with licensing, and from what I've read, the deal that they struck with Starz is close to being done, and when they go to renegotiate, Netflix ain't gonna get the same cheap price they got the first time. Which means either your monthly price is gonna rise, or the instant stream is going away. :(

What is that available in 3% of the country? It's 150 megs both ways? But if netflix is throttling me to 50k how in the hell does a faster connection help?

CurrentlySober 06-09-2011 12:58 PM

i cant afford netflux

Ayla_SquareTurtle 06-09-2011 01:02 PM

The new layout is crap. I'm fine with the larger box covers and widescreen design, but they actually removed features that were available before. I can no longer sort by rating to filter out the 90% of their streaming catalog that is crap.

D Ghost 06-09-2011 01:18 PM

Netflix works fine for me on my TV< perfect quality. Samsung apps is what I have. Also Hulu works perfectly.

flashfire 06-09-2011 01:52 PM

as the op said numerous times ITS NOT THE CONNECTION SPEED its the fact that netflix throttles the PC user

If you mean their layout on the website (as opposed to a console), here you go. Try this to view it in the older layout:
http://www.netflix.com/WiHome?fcld=true

oh wicked, thank you! And yes, I surf netflix on my htpc. I noticed the films offered are different through the xbox, weirdly. Like they buy their licenses by platform or something. Or maybe they're encoded differently.

I find the total opposite.

HULU is horrible for me and it has so many annoying ads.
It buffers every time the ad loads and the show reloads.

Its a mess
