Should I Jailbreak my iPhone?
Talking with a few friends this weekend, they showed me how great their jailbroken iPhone is and told me I should do the same to mine. Sucks that I just signed up for the hotspot from AT&T and lost the "unlimited" data package and now only have 4GB.
Besides it voiding the warranty, anyone find it worth doing? |
I would like to know this as well.
|
I probably wouldn't, I only did it because of not using ATT, I still just buy the apps from the app store, most are only a couple dollars or less anyways.
|
Why would you want to jailbreak it?

What sort of customisation can you do? I don't know anything about jailbreaking. |

Jailbreaking is no big deal and a software restore through iTunes will undo everything if you don't like it.
I have jailbroken every iPhone since the first one came out. My phone doesn't crash and I get some features and apps that I can't get through Apple. So if you're curious, why not? |
I've seen some bad ass design tweaks with a jail broken phone, but I have also heard about a lot of problems. It's a tough choice.
|
like nike says just do it..

Think I'll pass, thanks for the link though, interesting read. |
iPhone 3 or 4?
In either case I vote no. Have a factory unlocked iPhone4 and couldn't be happier with it. I like my shit to work and not tweak with it. |

If I had an iPhone, I would do it, most likely :pimp
|
newest firmware 4.3.3 is jailbreakable.
i did it last week. |
Nothing but issues with my iphone since I jailed it. I wouldn't screw with it.
|
I get everything I need on my iphone without jailbreaking it. So why bother? Especially with the new software upgrades that allows you to run more than one app at a time.
|
i cant afford to buy a jailbreak...
|
I only jailbreak it for the carrier unlock. I am not really into the customizations and shit.

ive had every iphone since the first one and comparing it a few other phones out there, there are some options that I wish it had. although there is a risk of breaking it further, at this point i really don't care considering i just bought a brand new one a few weeks ago to replace one that is cracked and does nothing but drop calls, rarely serves its job as a "phone" |

Why 'Jail Break' ???
Why not just SMACK IT AGAINST A WALL... And break it properly ???????? |
I say go for it :thumbsup
|
if you can undo it anytime then why not?
|
Mine was jailbroken for a while. It wasn't a big deal, I tested out a few apps for free but didn't really like it.
I just restored it through itunes. No big deal. |

I say do it, but I don't know what jailbreaking is....
|
Just break it and go Android.. I've been an iPhone user for 3 years or so and recently bought a Galaxy S2.. iPhones are for noobs, Android has alot more possibilities for expert users

I jailbroke mine a little while back but i found it was very unstable and i had to reset my iphone like 5-10x a day. I ended up restoring the phone back to factory settings as it was too much of a pain in the ass.
Maybe new jailbreak releases are better now though? |
Jailbreak complete!
So I did this last night, was pretty smooth and simple to do.
Finding apps is pretty easy but seem to be a little pricey for some. Best app so far is the HTC hack for the lock screen to show the time, date and weather. I have an app that shows the weather temp and a little picture of the condition by the battery power. So far the one that allows me to mod the AT&T logo (MakeItMine) doesnt work and I used an addon to remove the stock clock on the lockscreen but now the damn date shows at the top instead and annoys me  looks like there is almost endless shit you can do to this, but F! wish I would of done this last week when I still had my unlimited data plan instead of paying an additional $20/mo for a tethering package for 4gb :mad: |

iPhones are so much better jailbroken. I don't understand why Apple even bothers trying to prevent it.
Also, you don't void your warranty by jailbreaking. Reflash to the stock firmware and they have no way of being able to tell. |
thats ghey.
|
You can actually sell a jailbroken device for more money. As you already know you can do a lot more when it's jailbroken. I love the emulators. I actually once had a site showing you how to jailbreak your iPhones but that way is well outdated as it was for the first iPhone and iPod touch 1st gen. If you know how to do it then I say yes just do it.
|
go for it.
