I need a good, reliable, used, non gas guzzling car for a daily driver.

I have a CLS63. 13mpg average. It's my daily driver. I put about 6-7k miles on it a year. Spend close to $350 on gas a month. Now that gas is approaching $5 I'm sick of it.

At this point it will be cheaper for me to buy and insure a cheap car that gets good gas mileage - and leave the cls to weekends.

Besides an older Camry what should I be looking at? I'm talking dirt cheap.

really depends on how much you are willing to drop your 'comfort and convince' doesn't it? sure it's nice to have great gas millage but who wants to ride around in a rattle trap piece of shit with crap sound and no climate control or nav or any modern stuff?

go down and get a new prius for $300 a month on a lease

Makes no sense. You drive less than 135 miles a week! The added cost of a second car and maintenance should easily exceed the savings in fuel use.

PLUS you are leaving a great car home to drive a shoebox. I don't get it.

I had one of those back in high school. I swear the car made gas. It would be on 1/2 tank and I would drive it and park it. Come back to drive home and I would be just a little over 1/2 tank. Great little car.

I bought an 08 Subaru WRX to replace my 02 Camaro SS as a daily driver and I couldn't be happier. It makes about 300hp less, doesn't have leather, and other than tint is completely stock but it starts and runs every time, is really well built for a car I paid 20k for, and gets 25 mpg doing mixed city and freeway driving, compared to the 7-10mpg I got with the camaro doing the same.

You're going to hate going from a Mercedes to a car that's "dirt cheap." You can pick up a used IS300 if you still want a well built luxury car, or a Volkswagon TDi if you want something that is still kind of nice but gets a ton of miles out of each tank of gas.

I had a little red one that I drove to school for 2 years. You're right about the gas. The needle seemed to never move.

I just picked up a Jetta TDI that is doing just lovely with the diesel. I don't know if I'll go back to a gas car for a daily driver now.

No point in buying a car go lease something like the new Hyundai Elantra. They are leasing them for $139/mo here. 40mpg on the highway.
