I seriously doubt it...

open to competition = no value in the mined material
bitcoin.org is a weak domain, so I give it about 4% chance of becoming the new world currency, it does have a headstart. The peer to peer is not required though, eGold.com is my bet. Just need a few independant mirrors at eGold1.com eGold2.com ... You can just EMAIL a token to each other. 1 EGOLD = 0000000001000000000-439857349857348957934543785346852879 ---------------------^value------------------^private key my slogan - IF YOU CAN SEND A 100 DIGIT NUMBER TO SOMEONE, YOU CAN SEND THEM eGOLD! |
decentralized, non inflationary (no unlimited supply), encrypted
would be perfect for adult industry: cheap transactions and no charge-backs cons: volatile, no corporate/enterprise solutions yet. |
It will work by the few people that use it for good until they get scammed.

How can we get our coins anyway?
|
why dont we use a gold standard and go from there? Adult Gold Cash.
|
It has about as much chance of becoming the future as WOW gold does...
|
and mining is prone to botnets, large webhosting co.
don't listen that "botnets actually make it stronger by more mining" it makes the single PC miner's coins weaker, by 1,000,000:1 ------- eGold.com (if I get it) will have mining permits for $1 per CC for verification and a 5MZ PC will make $1 eGold every minute, probably for the first year. but just to trade won't require membership, it's just a token currency |
1 EGOLD = 0000000001000000000-439857349857348957934543785346852879
---------------------^value------------------^private key 1 egold! too easy! just take it to eGold.com to 'cash in'. |
Musical Chairs
Still kicking myself for not buying some, but I know my bad luck. This game of musical chairs would fold before I sell.
This is nothing more than a game of Pump & Dump Stock. It just lasts longer. Can you say Tulip Bulbs??? Tell you what, sign the bills of sale across my back for a small tip. (The hunchback that did that for Tulip Bulb transactions was the only person left with money after the crash). |

I have 18,000 shares of Enron I'd love to sell for just the $.07 a share I paid. |
I think Bitcoin will have a good future unlike the dollar.
The fact that Bitcoins cant be made without mining with CPU-power make it pretty safe for inflation. People have been using Liberty Reserve for a very long time and it seems to work fine. Bitcoins popularity have just started to grow as you can see here: http://www.google.com/trends?q=bitcoin I'm sure we'll see a lot more of it in the future when more people see it's advantages over other ecurrency. |

interesting note from one of the developers about anonymity and bitcoin. |
The current issue of 2600 has an article on anonymous payments. Pretty good read to see who the current players are.
