You're not alone there. Lots of racing series have become a bit dull with the crashes being the only exciting part.

Make it a rookie trying to pass lapped traffic and the story is even better! AND his car grinds to a 3 wheel 2nd place finish.

babymaker 05-29-2011 04:11 PM

That's all anyone watches it for i think :D

fitzmulti 05-29-2011 04:17 PM

I've shot my share of wrecks, when I was one of the primary photographers for the Atlanta Motor Speedway...
Crazy stuff CAN happen!

From where I was shooting (on the wall, with part of the fencing cut out {by NASCAR} so that there were no fence blurs in the shots...NONE (and I literally mean NONE) of the other track photogs, or even NASCAR "regular" photographers (Winston Cup Scene, etc...) had the balls to do it...Once. one of the guys from Winston Cup Scene came up (after I had done it for like 4 years straight), looked over my shoulder during the pace laps...tapped me on the shoulder, told me I had the biggest set of balls he'd ever seen for shooting from there...and left.

Never came back in future years, and neither did anyone else! LOL!
:P

Right now in the Charlotte race the cockpit temp is 135 degrees. I don't thing you need to piss when you will sweat off 20 lbs in a few hours.

They just go.

A few years back the driver of the now # 14 car crapped his pants and won the race.
He got out of his car and had to go change before accepting his trophy and everyone knew what happened.

NASCAR decides who you can have as a sponsor so the day Brazzers shows up on a car is the day after Manwin bought NASCAR.

If any of you are watching the race now...check out car number 32...Mike Bliss is the driver.

BLU CIGARETTES is the sponsor...
Sound familiar? ;-)

Very cool.
I didn't shoot Vic Lane that year, (obviously by the post race lap pic I posted) but that was an AMAZING, and historic NASCAR day!
AK won the championship, Jeff Gordon's first race {although at the time that was insignificant}, Richard Petty's last race...
All in one day!

L-Pink 05-29-2011 04:47 PM

Damn. A NASCAR thread on GFY that has more than 3 posts.

It's my favorite race just because it was so significant is so many different ways.

AK, DA and BE all had a shot at the championship in that last race. DA wrecked and AK figured out that if he led the most laps he would get the bonus points he needed to win and I think he did that by waiting an extra lap to pit while BE went it. :)

Agreed...plus, for me, after 7 years of shooting IndyCar (CART), I'd moved to ATL, and lived literally 4 miles from the AMS track! So that was MY first NASCAR race shooting, or attending, too...
I have a GREAT shot (somewhere) of AD & AK together in the garage area. Classic!

I've been to that site before :thumbsup

I've been going though my head who you meant by " AD " and couldn't come up with a name and then I figured you
meant Davey and accidentally reversed the letters :upsidedow

I'm 30 mins from the track at Daytona and have been going to pretty much everything they run there since the mid 90s.
I used to post my NASCAR pics but not a lot of fans here so I gave up.

Interesting fitzmulti, I would have never known otherwise.
I wouldn't attend a NASCAR event if it was across the street.

justinsain 05-30-2011 06:41 AM

Really exciting day of racing :thumbsup

The NASCAR and Indy races were incredible right to the finish and the F1 would've been too if not for the
late red flag and the fact they allowed the teams to work on their cars while parked. That allowed the leader to put on new tires instead of holding off 2nd and 3rd for the last few laps with fresher tires. It also allowed one team to repair their damaged wing. It's a BS rule as it ruined the drama and gave those guys a second chance.

In NASCAR if they stop the race for some reason the teams are not allowed to work on their cars until the race starts again. The rule this way ensures the team has to overcome whatever adversity under normal race conditions.
