Chris Barden vs Larry Mir 145lbs
Winner: by DQ (illegal knee) Chris Barden

Wonder who was winning before the DQ?

fuzebox 05-28-2011 11:12 AM

I'd say it was a back and forth fight before he took the knee... A lot of cage pressing and clinching, then he goes down for the takedown and eats a knee pretty hard. In UFC that'd be a valid move, but in the amateur promotions they don't allow knees to the head, so an illegal strike is an illegal strike, just like a poke in the eye or a shot to the nuts :2 cents:

Was his knee on the ground for the takedown?

Nope. In amateur MMA in Nevada you can't knee anyone in the face/head, downed or not.

Anthony 05-28-2011 11:44 AM

Taken down.

When they announced the winner, you can tell even Dirty Danza feels a rematch is needed.

The other guy seemed a lot stronger in my opinion.

cam_girls 05-28-2011 03:21 PM

Maybe punching isn't Danza's style...

Strategy fighter.. tire out your opponents legs!

Good win! Can't beat a booing crowd like that!

Not a whole lot of action. I didn't see Danza do anything that really hurt his opponent. Other then standing up after getting taken down, he mostly just held on and then was punched six times or so before taking a knee to what looked like the chest. I didn't see Danza land a single clean punch in the entire short fight.

When he collapsed to the canvas Danza was communicating with someone (I presume his corner), and looked well enough to continue, but the fight was still called a DQ.

Although on the surface it looked like Danza dodged a bullet, in sports a win is a win, and it does takes a lot of practice and courage to even step into the ring (octagon/cage).

Well, hopefully Danza can have some better looking fights in the future. I guess this is the way things go sometimes when you are an amateur just starting out.

Congrats Danza! :thumbsup

On second watching, I could see Danza's head snap up when Mir's knee first strikes him, even though on the video of the follow through, the knee more clearly appears to connect to the chest. In realtime the action happens so quick that it is hard to see.

However, I'm somewhat surprised that it was not simply a warning (the first time Tyson bit Holyfield's ear he was only warned), but I don't know all the rules for that style of fighting.

For example, on a low blow in boxing, a fighter can continue if he wants to after being allowed some time to recover.

At least Mir did not appear to strike with a knee for any reason other than instinct, since he already appeared to have Danza reeling from his punches.

MMA - Mixed Martial Arts

Danza is a ground fighter who is trained in ju jitsu and his game is the ground. Mir easily had 15 pounds on him and escaped off the ground rather easily. If you look at what was going on Danza was trying to tire mir out. Danza also took those punches like a champ. Anyone who has had fight experince knows that any blow to the head while fighting could be dangrous. His head clearly pops back weither the knee or not that will knock you flat on your ass.

Danza did great, and we were glad to sponser him win or lose. He is a great person to work with and did everything in his power to make us happy.

We look forward to working with him again and watching him beat mir in the next match.

what a joke

Hank_Heartland 05-28-2011 05:59 PM

Danza, I hate to say it but if the knee hadn't caused a problem for Mir you would have been in big trouble in that fight...He was all over you in that fight:2 cents:

The bottom line is, despite two less than impressive wins, Danza is undefeated as an amateur at 2-0 (with less then 5 minutes of sanctioned match fighting experience in nearly two years of fighting), and so now based upon this, he is planning to turn pro. :helpme

If he doesn't improve, at least he will get paid for taking a beating... :)

One thing there's no arguing about, Big Mir kicked the fuck out of Big Country.

You're gonna regret posting that when you sober up.

I did see Kimbo in the audience calling Danza out, saying "I want him next!".

Slap Dot 05-28-2011 10:59 PM

I really hope this guy fights kimbo.
