It's a shame not because of the weed but the hash. nowhere else in the world can you sample 100's of types of hash from different countries.

Doubt they can stop euro tourists, could probably sue under Euro laws.
I've still got my Dutch residency card so I'm o.k

CamTraffic 05-28-2011 05:11 AM

mafia_man 05-28-2011 05:19 AM

It's against EU law to have different rules for EU citizens and Dutch citizens, chances are this will only apply to those that come from outside the EU.

There are also good things that tourist can't buy it. That means we can sell it to them for higher prices. Every small drugs addict on the streets can easy make money that way. You don't have to go in a coffeeshop, they will offer it to you everywhere.

Mushrooms were banned last year already after a British dude slaughtered his dog in the back of his van and a french girl jumped from a building while on mushrooms.

Wow, thats fucking depressing. I mean it's not like weed is hard to get anywhere in the world but there was something about going to Amsterdam and being able to light up in a coffeeshop in a social way the same way drunk fucktards can drink together legally in bars that made it nice. I have been wanting to get back to the Dam, I might definitely have to go now one last time before this goes into effect. But it will be the last time I ever set foot in the country, same for a lot of other people as well I am sure. Oh well... I am sure they can make up all that lost tourist revenue by selling tulips as they sink further and further into the Sea. Dumbasses-

Come to think of it, it might actually make Amsterdam a cooler, more cosmopolitan type city. The first time I visited Amsterdam was 12 or so years ago when I studied for a summer in France. After graduating two years later, I went back to Europe for about 6 months and went to Amsterdam three separate times during that time frame. Since then, I've traveled to various places in Europe maybe 6 or 7 times and the thought of going back to Amsterdam has never really even crossed my mind.

I thought it seemed kind of hard to meet locals, which is something I always like to do when traveling. My theory was that locals were so numb to meeting tourists because most tourists probably get high and act stupid. I didn't really feel like I was able to get a true feel for the Dutch culture until spending a weekend in Delft and hanging out with a bunch of locals.

Getting rid of the coffee shops might make the city less overrun by hippie/part-time hippie tourists. Even just containing the coffee shops might be a good idea. Give them a little area like Christiana in Copenhagen. Copenhagen is freaking awesome. Very cosmopolitan. Aesthetically pleasing. Cool architecture. Hot girls. And everyone's really friendly there because the city is not perpetually overrun by annoying tourists.

I've never had any desire to go there.

Since this month more foreigners are living in Amsterdam than orginal Dutch locals.
So there is a bigger change you see a foreigner than a local.

pornmasta 05-29-2011 06:46 PM

btw this is perhaps a trick to make people come there for the next summer.
They can perhaps change their mind later (if they need money)

AtlantisCash 05-30-2011 12:02 AM

Shame on such a beautyful and Open minded country...

Redrob 05-30-2011 12:16 AM

I have visited Amsterdam many times and enjoyed its sights and sounds. In doing so, I asked my friends why the Dutch society was so liberal? I was told of the 90,000 citizens that were taken to the Nazi concentration camps and never returned. I was told by my friends that they would rather live in a society that was tolerant than return to a police state. They have first hand knowledge of a real "police state".

So saying, I recognize the right of the Dutch government to kick out the drugged-out tourists. I sincerely hope that once the tourist are gone, the Dutch will continue their social liberalization experiment and recognize the right of their countrymen to indulge in herbal recreations. Their socially liberal society is an excellent example of what life can be like in a socially liberal state.

Truth is, the tourists are ruining the experience for the Dutch and giving credence to the arguments of the conservative, right-wing politicians that want to increase police powers.

Consequentially, I think it is time for the tourist to go. Maybe the tourists can come back later to an even better experience.

Just my opinion.:2 cents:

Phoenix 05-30-2011 12:38 AM

it is still a nice place to visit
however here is my take on this....a lot of people..and i mean a lot..see it as the starting or ending point in their euro trips...and not because of the nice tulips you can bring home.

they will probably see a drop in their tourism dollars...i expect hotel owners to cause shit amongst the politicians circles

Markul 05-30-2011 12:41 AM

So no more reason to visit Amsterdam I guess :(

glamourmodels 05-30-2011 01:37 AM

Just saw on Yahoo news that some of the cast members of "The Hangover" are speculating on where they will make a Hangover 3 and say they think it will be Amsterdam.

http://movies.yahoo.com/news/usmovie...amsterdambound

My comment there was:

"I guess the writers at Yahoo dont read their own website. Yahoo news just reported that the Netherlands announced today that by the end of this year, foreign tourists will not be allowed in the coffeeshops. Seems to me like false advertising to have the Hangover gang go to Amsterdam for some crazy weekend when that's not going to be the reality on the ground there anymore. What is their "Lost Weekend" going to consist of... going to the Anne Frank museum and checking out the windmills? Sorry, but without the coffeeshops open, Amsterdam is nothing more than a quaint little town with some nice architecture inhabited by a few prostitutes in one little section of a city that is slowly sinking into the ocean. Ironically the Conservative party's zealots that are spearheading this will likely find themselves voted out once Amsterdam's tourist revenue dries up from the lack of tourism dollars, but by then the city's status as a party capital will be tarnished beyond repair. Shame."

It goes back to the 16th century. The religious freedom after their break from Spanish rule.

During the second world war Nederlands had a SS division, and a Nazi party.
