gCalifornia lifeguards make $!00,000 to $200,000

Fuck college just be a strong swimmer:

Base salaries for Newport Beach lifeguards range from $58,000 for the lowest-paid officer to $108,492 for the top-paid battalion chief, according to a 2010 city report on lifeguard pay.

With overtime only added in, more than half of the 13 cleared $100,000 and the rest made between $59,500 and $98,500. Adding in pension contributions, medical benefits, life insurance and other pay, two battalion chiefs earned more than $200,000 in 2010, while the lowest-paid officer made more than $98,000.

and lots o' pooty tang! :thumbsup

Mutt 05-21-2011 09:08 AM

well a battalion chief i'm sure isn't sitting out all day on a tower getting numbers from beach bunnies. it's probably a pretty big job with lots of paperwork and managing people.

Sly 05-21-2011 09:09 AM

I read that the other day. It's pretty misleading. The ones making the money are the higher level guys.

ottopottomouse 05-21-2011 09:13 AM

Anybody they rescue wouldn't resent them being paid double.

Mutt 05-21-2011 09:14 AM

wow - they can retire at only 50 and with 30 years service in they get a pension of 90% of their salary for the rest of their life. wtf - do police and fireman get that kind of pension? and probably still get their benefits too.

dyna mo 05-21-2011 09:15 AM

worth every penny.

dyna mo 05-21-2011 09:18 AM

crazy waves in the oc this weekend, those guards will be making some seriously dangerous open water rescues.

I can't imagine staying in one job for 30 years, that is crazy :2 cents:

Mutt 05-21-2011 01:01 PM

i don't get it - how can they afford to pay these pensions?

90% pension at 50 years of age for an employee making $100,000 - average life expectancy of 78 for males - that's 90,000x28=2,520,000 what the fuck, that's 2 and a half million dollars. how much would it cost a person 20 years old per year to buy an annuity that would pay them $90,000 at 50 years old?

California lifeguards don't average that much. It is Newport Beach, where the average home is over $1 million and everyone makes $250-350k+ per year. I'm sorry the nurse with the retard thinks she can live there for nothing. Go back to Tennessee, bitch.

doesn't seem like enough local property tax would be generated either to fund these pensions, etc.

Assistant city attorneys in Miami making 200k a year. Taxpayers shouldn't stand for that. Let them go into private practice if they want to make 200k and up. There are plenty of lawyers who would take that job for 100k and do no worse a job.

As for the cops, I think it's even worse in Toronto, it's all the overtime and the off duty work they pick up at double and triple pay rates. You don't need a policeman to do half the off duty jobs they do like standing their picking their noses on construction sites and waving traffic at funerals. You could train people and create new jobs for that type of work and pay them 20 bucks an hour. Police union freaks out when that gets suggested.

That's the problem with politicians, it's not their money they're spending so why worry about how much and how you spend it. Every once in awhile a newspaper or website will expose all the shenanigans and wasteful spending and it becomes a hot topic on talk radio for a week - and that's it, nothing ever changes.

They can't afford to pay those pensions. California is crumbling.

I have a friend who is a police officer for Washington DC... His base salary is somewhere around 55k/year..however with all his overtime he clears 130k/year.... What overtime? You know when they goto court? Thats overtime so he'll sit in a room at the courthouse all day long and usually sleep most of the time till his case is called and the whole time.. he is on the clock.

Another "perk" they get is when they goto a call the first officer on scene will take down the names of the officers who show up so they can also.. goto that court case and sit in and yes, make over time.

Call it what you want but he works in 6d. Which is the.. well you know best part of DC.. he averages 8-12 calls per shift where the much nicer areas of DC will average 1-3 calls every two days if that. For putting his life on the line everyday in DC he should be compensated but it is silly.
