Do any REAL data entry jobs exist?
My wife has this fantasy of being paid to sit and retype printed data into a computer so she can earn a bit of extra cash... every website I've found so far seems to be a scam (eg vague income range promises, a monthly "service plan" subscription needed), and I told her that living in Australia she's going to find it hard to compete with what third world offshore workers get paid, but she's still persisting.
She asked about a job that looked plausible until I pointed out she was on a site from South Africa. :1orglaugh :helpme (To be fair, Google has moved the "Show pages from Australia only" option from a prominent position on the home page/search form to a small line of text in a list of refinement options on the results pages...) Anyway. Any ideas? |

all these jobs are taken by pakis who work for peanuts

Why dont she try to write some text-content?
She'll be able to find data entry-jobs here: www.scriptlance.com |
The average wage in Australia is about $AUD55k or ~$USD52k
8 hours a day x 5 days x 48 weeks = 1920 hours Or about $USD27 an hour I don't know how happy my wife would be earning like $3 an hour. :1orglaugh |

One company I work for outsource that kind of job to manual input centers in India, Pakistan and the Philipine islands. I'm not too sure since I'm not in that division, but I heard rates for manual input to be $1 per hour and some 8-10 hours working days, 6 days a week and some requirements for a minimum amount of words or numbers per hour.
I also know of other companies with extremely accurate OCR scanning, which more or less makes all of this unneccessary. For what it's worth, you could try vworker.com. I put many of my own projects I don't have time for or know I can give away for cheap there. People put up all kinds of crazy stuff, but that could be one place where she could try. |
rowan, these kinds of jobs, the legitimate ones, are outsourced overseas. All the rest, as you know, are scams.

Best thing to do is write some proper articles, then go for higher value work.
Data entry pay is low cause anyone can do it. Not everyone can write a grammatically correct, well researched articles. My wife writes Spanish articles and gets reasonable pay for them because the companies she works for know they are going to be extremely well researched through multiple sources. |
I might have some entry position work for her! $100/hour ok?

www.odesk.com has the largest data entry jobs.

I've told her that there will still be some data entry done locally, like medical records or census data, but that wouldn't be her sitting at home on her own computer. And no point trying to compete with third world outsourcing pay levels. |
