LinkedIn IPO - LNKD

Expected price has jumped $10 to $42-45.

Quote:

Professional networking site LinkedIn Corp. on Tuesday raised its expected price range for its initial public offering this week by a hefty $10, a strong indication that demand is running high for the new stock.

The company, which is preparing to set the IPO price Wednesday night and begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol LNKD on Thursday, had originally set out to sell 7.84 million shares at $32 to $35 apiece. In an updated filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission Tuesday morning, the company set the range at $42 to $45.

While companies sometimes raise their price ranges by as much as $3 to $4, a $10 increase is uncommon. The last time something similar happened just before a pricing was at the height of the dot-com market in 2000, when Internet network equipment company ArrowPoint Communications Inc. raised its price range by $15 a share in March of that year, according to data from Dealogic. ArrowPoint ended up pricing even higher than its revised range, then was acquired a few months later by Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO)

LinkedIn's new price range is a clear sign that investors are jockeying for shares ahead of the offering and are willing to pay far more than the company was originally asking in order to get a piece of the IPO. The deal could still price higher than its raised range by the time the dust settles Wednesday evening.

I used to think LI was the steak of the social media networks, but they're getting a little too cluttered and starting to get gamed more and more. It's a shame really - a good business-oriented social network would be really nice and they initially were, but it's wearing off.

Love LinkedIn I hope they do well with their IPO

DateDoc 05-19-2011 07:29 AM

Currently trading at $85. I'd call that a successful IPO.

Just saw them at 83.90 either way they opened a LOT higher than expected or took a Nice jump.

seeandsee 05-19-2011 07:37 AM

It's value is 9 billion now after close

I wonder if they are thinking they under priced the IPO

woj 05-19-2011 07:50 AM

up 100%?! that's fucking ridiculous...
my guess is a lot of people will get burned, it will probably settle in the 50-60 range in a few months...

Only if you could have gotten in at the opening price.

Houdini 05-19-2011 07:55 AM

So, given the stock price right now, their P/E is 980!!! The internet bubble is back! Can't wait until some puts come on the market, easy money right there.

P/E 1,221 LOL!!! By comparison, Google's P/E is 16, Apple is 20. It is now the most expensive stock, based on price vs. earnings, on the stock market. When the options market opens for this stock, the put volume will be HUGE.

PornMD 05-19-2011 08:55 AM

Facebook has to be happy about this...can only help their valuation moving forward.

Who's going to take the other side and write you those PUT options?

Be careful, because it's usually the big experienced cats writing the options.

Shorting a bubble requires a very strong stomach and deep pockets, patients.

Simply make sure you have your sell off points set then ya do not lose. You do it daily if you trade daily. Then a bubble does not matter.:thumbsup

Linkedin will climb another 30 points tonight when the Asians wake up and jump in the fray.

No doubt about it, writing options is the most profitable, as they almost always expire worthless. Leap OTM puts on this sucker and there's very little downside other than your original investment. The bottom line is you can't sustain a 1200 P/E for long. They make $8 million dollars a year and they said they're going to LOSE money next year! This stock should be in the single digits.

I'm not a fortune teller, but I would be very surprised to see this stock above $40 by the end of the year. Call me crazy, but you need some fundamentals and I think a few earnings calls could wake people up. Unless, we're just going back to the 2000 iBubble days and maybe we are?

DateDoc 05-19-2011 01:08 PM

Closed at $94.25.
