demented 01-24-2003 09:47 AM

I'd think it would be illegal to sell UIN's wouldn't it? I doubt ICQ would just turn their head to somone making a profit from their service in which they offer for FREE. I'm sure there are probablly millions of 6 digit UIN's and I'm sure SOME of them are not in use and have simple pw's ( hint hint ) lol. If you took your time I bet you could get one :thumbsup

res 01-24-2003 09:53 AM

Heh... I can sell 5 and 6 digits ICQ number (54444, 211111 for example). 6 digits with primary email :)

Hrmm...fuzzy math...

There couldn't possibly be millions of 6 digit UIN's. There could be a maximum of 999,999 UIN's LESS than six digits. For 6 digits exactly that number drops to 900,000, because the other 99,999 are less than 6 digits.

But I see where you are going with this. I could give a rat's ass about the length of my ICQ #...It brings back the age old question:

Does size matter? It's not the size of your ICQ #, its what you do with it...:Graucho

I have one I'll sell..

Dude, you buy one of those numbers from those Russian scammers and you know what happens? They crack your password and take it back from you and you get fucked for the money you paid. How do you think these guys got the passwords in the first place?

I have a six digit ICQ number in the 400,000's with two double numbers. very easy to remember, I want $500 USD for it, I've seen them go higher on ebay. It's worth it, and has been mine since 1996. I'm the second owner, my friend was the first.

Bad math. The 999,999 should be 1,000,000. 0 is also a possibility.

Hah :) Maybe can you resell my uins then ? :Graucho

klondyke 01-26-2003 08:14 AM

Well if there is a way to prove it? I will.

I think it's worth it, in the superficial world of the internet, someone usually wants to be "l337". So I figure, why not ask $500. Most of you pay less than that for hosting your sites every quarter.

Bad example. The only UIN that would make your statement true is 000000 which I doubt was ever given out. I don't know if they go in numerical order or not but they obviously started with lower (shorter) numbers. Once they got to 99999 the next obvious UIN would be 100000 then 100001. Therefore no 6 digit all 0's putting the remainder at 999,999 6 digit UIN's.

Odd justification. A short ICQ makes you a very long way from being 'l337'. And to compare it with hosting makes little sense as you need hosting to do business, not so a short ICQ.

I dare say people will and do pay for short numbers - I've just yet to understand why.

Lane 01-26-2003 09:48 AM

i dont understand why a 6 digit icq number would be worth anything.. there are 900,000 of them for gods sake.. not like its something rare.

I have two 7 digits I'll sell ya, $10

Sleazylee 01-26-2003 03:46 PM

Legally you can't really sell em as they are property of Miralibis, same reason that ebay now cancels UIN auctions. Not to say people don't sell em of course, but they "aren't supposed to" heh.

Lane 01-26-2003 03:57 PM

I can't believe people are selling UINs. That's one of the weirdest things I've ever heard.

I'm fairly positive that ICQ started numbers at 100000. It's kinda fun having a low number actually, people ask me about it all the time on ICQ.

If someone is too incompetent to cut and past a number, I'm not sure I would want to do business with them in the first place.

So whether your number is a 6 digit or 20 digit just make sure it can be copied and pasted :)

No, it's not correct. This uins 10000-99999 is speciality and they under special control of Mirabilis :glugglug

Also for 5-digits uin you cant retrieval password ! Check it here.

Juggernaut 01-27-2003 08:54 AM

res, all you had to do was make a fake request, copy that URL, change the uin value at the end with whatever UIN you wish to request password for, and bam.

Example:
https://web.icq.com/secure/password/...ml?uin=1000000

Juggernaut 01-27-2003 09:07 AM

Oh and the the numbers between 10,000 and 99,999 are not all controlled by ICQ. Mirabilis made ICQ available to many people back in 96, so those that first tried it, ended up with short numbers... You will find that all the good numbers like 10000, 20000, 30000 etc are "owned" by employee's of the company, programmers etc.

If you really want a short UIN, it's not that hard, hotmail purges email address' every month, just look for a hotmail address in a random ICQ search, make a password request after you've taken over that email account and you're bound to get something... so many of the small numbers are truly dead numbers not being used by anyone.

The database to those original unused numbers in the tens and hundreds of thousands, like contact list etc has been deleted ten fold. If you take over a UIN that is owned by someone, I'm sure they will make it clear to you, if you take over a UIN owned by an admin, you're pretty much IP banned.
