Why Would AVN Buy GFY?
Just wondering why AVN would buy this board?
Was it for the ad revenue? Was it a strategic move? What do you think? |
|
You're cruising for another banning. ;-)
My guess is because AVN is painfully dying and they are looking for any way possible to remain in the business. Same reason they will be throwing their full support behind .XXX soon. Their magazine is down to what, 20 pages, and it's only ads for the usual suspect and AVN Award winners... Evil Angel, Elegant Angle, Jules Jordan, Digital Playground and Adam & Eve. AVN & Xbiz... unless they find better ways to adapt, it's curtains. Same with the FSC. Like how the FSC is getting into HIV and STD testing, I expect to see some odd things happening with these companies in the coming future. |
With the rapid market consolidation at the moment it is probably a good step to stay relevant a little longer on the marketing to webmasters end.
I also suspect gfy was going dirt cheap |
Ad revenue. What I don't get is why they don't have avn ads on here though.
|
if you can't beat them, buy them. Thats what microsoft does.
|
they are a news facet. believe it or not... this is still the epicenter of whats going on in adult. Its on one level sad... but tell me im wrong... yea a little ad revenue too and im sure playboy sold it cheaper than bought... how much did it go for?
No offense intended... just pointing out what I feel to be blatantly obvious... |
Yes, gfy is still THE place to be for biz and connections.

GFY is getting more shittier each time it's sold.

Everyone has plans and reason..

But given the current state of everything... ya never know. |
I wonder what it sold for. Are top banner spots still $5k/mo? All you gotta do is reload and keep track of how many different sponsors are advertising... GFY was a cash cow for a long time :2 cents:

skinning it something like 10x that... |
$2500 makes a lot more sense, I couldn't remember. Just counted 30 top banner sponsors before I gave up, and that doesn't include the 240x60s. Someone told me the going rate is more like $1500 now anyway...
Still a decent money maker :2 cents: |

Control as many pawns in what's left of the industry. :thumbsup |
I dunno, but I would buy it as well, perhaps only for fun if I had enough funds. Though, I never heard about that auction was going to take place. I think that it was sold very silently. Only after the sale I've heard a rumor about 450k but I don't know if it's true or not.
|
of course for ads, that's how they make money.
|
I know several webmasters who just can't be bothered with this or most other forums because of the crap, they are pure businesspeople with no interest in the latest drama.
There are alot of the older people from adult here, even many of the new people are old. I enjoy GFY as much as the next person, however I suspect that there is a much wider community of adult webmasters who don't play here or anywhere. |
While that is true, lots of business still gets done here. Lots of the big players don't post here but the do read it. I guarantee that.

its funny how everyone keeps crying like fucking babies about the industry dying yet the yearly revenue continues to grow. what it boils down to is bandwagoners. yes. hate me if you want but most are just kids that saw a viable formula to make money that required little real creativity or business background and they jumped for it, made some killer cash and assigned some title of success to their personality that makes them think they really did something... sorry to say it but most just got lucky.
now that real powerhouses have emerged and are buying up everything the poor little simpletons are crying. grow a pair and get creative... find new ways to convert and get business... but I imagine that is hard for a lot of people because they aren't real programmers in the sense of developing something truly innovating and or they lack the tenacity to figure out how to grow their business into the future. either the case, whining is just pathetic. |
AVN might think that we at GFY are a fountain of wisdom, a goldmine of technological innovation, and the "be all to end all" of popular opinion in the industry. AVN....they are a news business and really, really need access to the industry's source of wisdom, innovation and insights.
Just my opinion.....but, I like you. You heard it here first!! |

Ad revenue of course. Or AVN will launched their very own affiliate program and promote here?

Why wouldn't they buy GFY?
