I am watching 'The Wire' for the 1st time ever!

Always heard about it - Never EVER seen it!

Supposed to be great? Anything I should look out for?

Zuzana Designs 05-10-2011 06:25 AM

I have the series and have not had time to watch it. I have heard so much about it and how awesome it is. I need to make some time this weekend.

u-Bob 05-10-2011 06:25 AM

one of the best series ever made

Exactly. Its just started being re-shown here in the UK, from the very start. My 'Box' has recorded the 1st 5 episodes, I've just seen ep1, and I am just starting ep2...

I know it takes a wile to get into new shows, but thats why I wondered if there were any tips for this 'awesome' series :)

The Truth Hurts 05-10-2011 06:37 AM

tip: don't get too attached to anybody.

Agent 488 05-10-2011 06:46 AM

that show blows ... don't bother ...

Wizzo 05-10-2011 06:48 AM

One of the the best series ever made... :pimp

I wish I could be you, experiencing it for the first time again.

I would say to have patience for the first few episodes, and you'll be hopelessly hooked. It's not the type of show that tries to give you everything right away -- it's more of a slow cooker -- and the entire series is connected like one big novel.

Having watched the Wire will make you a more awesome person.

woj 05-10-2011 06:54 AM

it's pretty good indeed :thumbsup

It's a great series even though I never got to see the end.

The season at the school was the only one that seamed boring, but stick around it had another story going on that you will enjoy.

Dont take Omar's Honey Nut.
Fear punkinballs.
Guys with glasses and bowties are bad asses.

But you have to flounder for a few seasons before you get to meet Stringer Bell.

PR_Glen 05-10-2011 07:02 AM

pause it if your going to get snacks or hit the bathroom, every line in it practically is significant down the line. ;)

Coup 05-10-2011 07:04 AM

Oh shit! OMAR COMIN!

Best cop show ever made

Chosen 05-10-2011 07:14 AM

Haven't seen yet...

Cherry7 05-15-2011 03:30 PM

How it going ?

You should be hooked by now.

SGS 05-15-2011 03:50 PM

I love how all the major plots are tied up so nicely at the end of Season 5, a masterclass in great writing!

One of the best shows ever made :thumbsup

IMO Season 3 is the best!

Deej 05-15-2011 03:51 PM

Omar... Run!

Theo 05-15-2011 04:05 PM

You should also check "The Shield"

Paul 05-15-2011 04:07 PM

BTW if you're a fan of The Wire I'd recommend checking out The Shield (2002)

Not as good as The Wire but it's an excellent show in the same genre that has a similar style

:1orglaugh You must have posted that as I was writing my recommendation for it!

Another great show :pimp

Jakez 05-15-2011 04:42 PM

Damn it, this thread reminded me how much I loved The Wire so I had to add DVD's back to my Netflix and order the first season.

CaptainHowdy 05-15-2011 04:54 PM

I have the feeling that "The Wire" (or "LOST") it's one of those things that people pretend to like ...

My favorite too.

GTS Mark 05-15-2011 05:50 PM

Amazing series, i just finished the whole thing last week as a matter of fact. I am just starting to watch Sons Of Anarchy now.

HighlyIntoxicated 05-15-2011 07:41 PM

You lucky asshole. I wish I could go back in time and watch it for the first time again.

candyflip 05-15-2011 07:44 PM

I just started watching it again, but just a few eps here and there.

We'll see if people are calling LOST the best series in 2-3 years. Doubt it. I've watched them both and I'd say The Wire is a lot better.

Cleatus VanDamme is the star of that show and Justified.

Cherry7 05-16-2011 01:12 AM

1 The Wire
2 Sopranos
3 The Shield

:2 cents:

Walton Goggins puts in an outstanding performance :thumbsup

Good to see him getting some decent movie parts these days too.

Or maybe people just like it....imagine that.

And if you "have the feeling" - I'm guessing you have never watched the show.

Stringer is in the first and second season too.

The Ghost 05-16-2011 01:44 PM

Have to give it a try again. Watched the first episode and wasn't hooked at all. A few friends that rave about it all the time so will give it another go.

Sam - Mr. Skin 05-16-2011 01:48 PM

It's a great series. You have to give it some time because there are so many characters and it takes a while to develop, but you will be glad you did once you get into the 2nd season.

Both shows are tops, but I would have to put the best of all time IMHO would be lost...

read my first post in this thread.

To sum up what I said earlier....it's more of a "big picture" enjoyment you will get after you've seen all seasons. Not to say there aren't some great isolated moments also. Not a series for those that like resolutions at the end of every episode.

AnimeFevers 05-16-2011 03:20 PM

Is this movie about poo?

Nicky 05-16-2011 03:26 PM

I envy you. What I'd give to see The Wire, SoA and Sopranos for the first time again :)

adultchatpay 05-16-2011 05:48 PM

gotta watch that soon

Poindexterity 05-16-2011 07:27 PM

the beginning of season 2 is a bit slow, but once it gets going, it's some of the best writing, acting, and directing I've ever seen on TV.

and yeah, dont get too attached to anyone.

V_RocKs 05-16-2011 09:14 PM

One of the best things ever put on TV.

After watching I suggest:

The Sopranos
Weeds
Nip/Tuck
United States of Tara
Hung
Rome
Sons of Anarchy

In no particular order.

seeric 05-16-2011 09:40 PM

the borgias and game of thrones.

united states of tara, nurse jackie. new weeds is starting. new dexter pretty soon.

Fletch XXX 05-16-2011 09:42 PM
