banner management software?

Who's using what? I might go w openx, but it's such a huge overhead.

Any other lighter alternatives out there?

I use that and it works very well, especially with memcache. Quick and easy and very simple to get up and going at a reasonable cost, well worth trying before investing in anything else.

Does the script allows us permits the following 3 fields:
- Sponsors/Advertiser Name
- Category/Niche
- Banners size

DamianJ 08-14-2011 11:27 AM

An industry specific one would be good. And one with some intelligence.

Imagine if you had a site, and the surfer clicks on thumbs of blondes with big tits, then on subsequent pages you could show him ads that were - get this - blondes with big tits.

If someone made that, with decent stats, nice porn features, like auto swopping out non-performing banners etc it'd be worth paying for.

cooldude7 08-14-2011 12:05 PM

i just use random ads using php script.

hey, just read the FAQ for Smart Spots - i have a question.

If I set up an 'advertplace' and I want to advertise on a rotating basis 15 different sites from that advertplace - can i assign weight/priority to some of those banners? So if I wanted Site A's banner to appear twice as often as the other sites' banners it can do that?

can it handle Flash .swf ads? iframe ads?

i only really need jpg/gif but would be nice if it could do swf and iframes.

Say I want to display 728X90 MILF banners From Sponsor XYZ on top of my page, 300X300 CFNM and Drunk banners at random from 4 different sponsors on the right-side of that same page then 300X700 banners at random from all niches and all sponsors on the left-side of the page. Can It do that?

Btw, I'm still waiting to get access to the demo!

Mutt,
It works like this.
1. Create an advertising spot.
1.1 Create a campaign to run in that advertising spot.
1.2 Create/upload the banners which will belong to that campaign.
You can then assign certain weight/priority to the banners in which will be shown the most often.
You can also have like a Friday campaign, that has its own set of banners and you only activate the Friday campaign for those Friday nights.
It can most certainly show site A's banner more often as all the other 15 in your example above.

Yes, it handles flash .swf files and iframe ads.
For some of my sites, I run juicyads for the time being, and I run those iframes from juicy directly as banners in Smart Spots.

I really recommend getting it, for a very good price you get a lot of functions. Make sure to set it up with a memcache, because that will make serving the ads go a lot quicker and a regular user won't notice any difference at all.

Is there a simple one that works on a one installation per-site basis? Something that shows up random defined ads but then starts to show the most clicked adverts more often? Perferably with a stats back end.

Babaganoosh 08-15-2011 07:55 AM

Did smart spots ever fix the issue where you had to copy your banners over and over again? That one issue made their script unusable.

OpenX can do that but it's not exactly simple. And you assign weights to the banners manually (but it shows you ctr so you put up the banners and come back in day to adjust the wieghts). It then rotates the banners shown according to random probability combined with the banner's weight. You can set up individual zones so that one is different than the other or you can make them all on the same zone.

Yeah but thats a bit overkill. Ideally, i'd like one simple install on each site that just does a banner rotate with simple stats and banner frenquency dependant on clicks. I'm suprised that there isnt one (or one that i have found).

You could do exactly just that if you want, and even simpler because you can serve ads on all your sites from one openx installation. Stop fighting it and just go ahead and click here: http://download.openx.org/openx-2.8.7.zip

If you need help you can hit me up: [email protected]

Has openX closed all of the security holes that royally fucked over their users for half a decade?

V_RocKs 08-16-2011 01:38 AM

On a side note... Can someone create a browser standard for something like:

1) I am gay
2) I am straight, yet bi-curious
3) I am a bisexual male
4) I am male and homophobic
5) I am a female looking for porn
6) I am a lesbian
7) I am a female bi-curious
8) I am a bisexual female
9) I am female and homophobic

Having that kind of info would be priceless!

Thanks.
I'm a bit confused after visiting the admin!

How would one setup set up the admin to produce the following fields:
Sponsors: XYZ, ABC, EFG, KML
Niches: MILF, Voyeur, Party, Babes
Banner Size: 728x90, 300X250, 160x600, 468X60

and have only 300X250 banners from MILF for only ABC and KML displayed on a site?

Smart Spot is very good !

Wouldn't it be more better for him/her to explain here? I'm sure others would want to know as well. And who know, it might lead to a few more sales of Smart-Spots becouse of this useful info!

It's free to get an account and it takes less than a minute to sign up. I don't see the problem, besides, with those scripts they have, it's likely that you are or have been a customer or user already.

You know, I keep hearing all of these horror stories about OpenX. And while any software has bugs and requires patches, I've never had a single issue with it (even back when it was phpads, then phpads new).

To this day we deliver millions of banner impressions per month to our clients, and not so much as a hiccup.

Having said that, I understand there have been vulnerabilities. But I am betting the bulk of those affected probably do not apply patches the same day they are released, or have not effectively locked down their installation. I'll bet most do not even do so much as restrict access to the admin by IP or even simpler, use something as basic as an htaccess file to disable PHP execution in the uploads folder. Certainly a lot of software hardening is undocumented, but I think its imperative that anyone relying on third party software understand, or hire someone who does understand, how to implement some proactive, preventative measures.
