anyone actually use vbulletin CMS?

I was looking at it for a project, but then I thought, maybe I should see what people think.

Is it any good. Or should I do a wp/vb combo?

I assume it will depend on what you need and what are you looking for. Also, why did you choose that option or what do you find of interest in it. Personally, I can't even imagine why would you think of using some extremely limited and PAID CMS thing when you could use the best option for free, but guess there must be something you like, so maybe with more info on that you'll get more answers :)

It's really the forum. The cms is really pretty basic needs. I don't need anything fancy...

well, then go for it, the VB to WP bridge plugins are the most absolute crap, so if you don't need much on the CMS side, I guess a full VB solution will work. It would be interesting to see some opinions on people actually using it though

Well Harv, I'll let ya know how it turns out...good or bad...

I think VB has the best forum, so the CMS makes for easy integration with the SNS portion, if being very integrated is vital. The VB CMS makes it so pics can't be linked to sponsors or whatever, but otherwise it is fairly robust and user-friendly and needs less fuss than WordPress for featured images and video thumbs. If you don't need a lot of integration, the WP bridges are okay and may function just fine. SEO on the VB system can be more of a challenge than for WP.

Nice timing on this thread. I'm getting ready to pony up the cash for the CMS and mobile add-on. Not sure if I will get the mobile portion right now or not. That shit adds up quick. $285 for the CMS/forums, $99 for the mobile add-on, then $25 to Google to get it listed in their marketplace, $100 to Crapple (per year) to list it in their app store. Then I have to pay a designer to customize it.

For the mobile app you can not get the app approved if your site has vulgar language or nudity. When I say that Im talking about for the VB team to approve your app.

It's for a mainstream site but thanks for the heads up. :thumbsup

The mobile addon is an app, not a skin.

Babaganoosh 04-28-2011 12:14 PM

I've been going back and forth on the idea of buying the mobile addon. I've seen a lot of iphone users who aren't tech savvy have an app for every site they visit. If the site doesn't have an app then they don't/won't go there in safari. Yes, that's pathetic and stupid but these people are the AOLers of today and we have to keep things simple for their little minds.

Good point. I bought it for a project Im working on also.

I just paid for the license today. I think I will wait to buy the mobile app until the traffic starts flowing...if the traffic starts flowing. This is a new niche for me so I have no idea if I can get started or not. It's definitely out of my area of expertise.

I tell you, I had hopes of bringing in a import from joomla. that did not go over well at all. I guess the SEF urls is a whole other thing.
