Food allergies popping up late in life

Anyone else find yourself suddenly allergic to a food you have ate for years? I have determined I am now allergic to turkey bacon. Same brand, etc. Just now it breaks my face and neck out in a terrible rash.

On another note, I now know that 2 Benadryl and a glass of wine is a great way to get a good nights sleep!

Sly 04-27-2011 10:59 AM

Those aren't allergies. That's your body telling you to stop eating that crap and go for pig!

LOL! Sly, real bacon is so greasy and salty. YUCK

wehateporn 04-27-2011 11:02 AM

Can often be due to a vaccine you had in recent years, there's all kinds of crap in those and you can often end up with antibodies not just to the virus, but to foods that were involved in the production and sometimes with antibodies to your own body i.e. autoimmune disease.

You can become allergic to things that you are frequently exposed to. With each exposure the allergic reaction becomes a bit more severe.

You may want to consult a doctor who might have some insight as to additives and preservatives that are used in that particular brand of turkey bacon that might be the culprit, if for no other reason than so you can find another brand that doesn't have the same effect.

Good idea! I was convinced that could not be the culprit so I "tested" it again and found that I had an even worse reaction. You are dead on there.

it happened to my mom with soy. A few years back she started getting rashes and bad migraines until we realized it was related to her consuming soy. We did a research and this happens to people who have had allergies all their lives, just not food allergies. Probably you had respiratory allergies (lots of sneezing and itchy nose), or skin (rashes, breaking up, etc.) and now these allergies have become food allergies.

stay away from the foods that cause it, take a mild antihistamine every night and don't go eating anything weird :)

when i eat corn on the cob, above and below my top and bottom lip will turn purple

Over 90% of Soy is toxic, it's GM. The body knows this so is reacting

ottopottomouse 04-27-2011 03:07 PM

About 15 years ago i suddenly became unable to eat lamb without shitting the entire contents of my body out a few minutes later. Not fun when you've forgotten what it tastes like so have managed to eat it several times by accident since :(

Corn and Soy are both to be avoided unless you know for certain they are not GM. Over 85% of Corn is GM and over 90% of Soy

Avoid GM Soy, Corn and Canola
The most commonly modified crops are soy, corn, beet sugar and canola oil. To avoid corn and soy means avoiding soy oil and corn syrup, which are added to many foods. Read labels to verify food contents of any prepared or packaged foods.

You are allergic to additives, namely nitrates. The Turkey Bacon is just a big shot of it all at once, however, you probably eat other items with it and they would build up. This means you should avoid cured meats. It could also be gluten as well. The big dose you get from the cured meat is something which is dramatic, but its likely you get similar, less noticeable symptoms from the additive build up. You can get asthmatic as well, almost like mold.

Eat plain for one week. Then eat a piece of cheap deli meat. Go back to plain, eat wheat bread.

Life probably just did you a favor.

same here...
I got allergic to Milford tee...

cherrylula 04-27-2011 07:41 PM

yes... SOY. and it's in everything... and yeah that GM corn is terrible. I can't eat Doritos without getting ill.

devilspost 04-27-2011 07:49 PM

Doritos are loaded with MSG

TondaB 04-28-2011 10:52 AM

Great information! I appreciate the feedback. I haven't drank soda for years! The nitrates in the turkey bacon is what first came to my mind. I guess the older you get the less crap your body can handle.

RIP Turkey bacon

I never had hives in my life and then a few years ago I broke out in hives twice the same 3 month period. That was several years ago, and nothing since.

The most common skin allergy triggers that cause hives include:

• Medication such as antibiotics, codeine, penicillin, sulfa, anticonvulsant drugs, phenobarbital, and aspirin

• Foods like shellfish, nuts, tomatoes, soy, chocolate, and berries

• Pollen

• Cat dander

• Insect bites such as bee and wasp stings

Tom_PM 04-28-2011 11:10 AM

Maybe they changed something in their production and your body noticed it. If you can timestamp it roughly and contact them to ask if anything changed, that could tell something.

I use turkey bacon and would hate that. It's so good in bits on pizza.

cherrylula 04-28-2011 11:24 AM

this thread kind of scares me. lol.... good info though!

Robatolla 04-28-2011 12:23 PM

Allergies can change over time. The common saying is growing out of or into an allergy.I got migraines from processed meat as a kid and can eat them now.but I was told by my doctor you never really grow out of an allergy,it juz may effect you in a different way(stuffy nose, the shits, hives, etc.) so if you're having a reaction to something suddenly you may have always been allergic to it,just effected you less severely in a different manner.

Without GM crops there wouldn't be enough food to feed everyone. Who do we go ahead and starve to death and do you think they'll appreciate your choice to not eat "toxic" foods at the cost of them not eating at all?

Oh that's right, you didn't really think about your position you jumped right on the hippy bandwagon. Asshole.

uno 04-28-2011 02:39 PM

I think i'm starting to develop lactose intolerance.

Henry Kissinger: "Control oil and you control nations; control food and you control the people."

I haven't got time to explain this in great detail, but I'll list some bullet points that will help you see how I reached my conclusion:-

- There's already enough food to feed the world, but it is not distributed equally. Everyone wants to sell their food to those who pay the most; that's why American's and Brits are getting fatter while African's are dying.

- Look into Monsanto, they are criminals, criminals of the worst kind. Do not trust these people, their studies or anything they tell you. They are not here to save the world.

- GMO foods have been shown to absorb the pesticides, highly toxic pesticides. That means we're eating them

- GMO foods are being designed so as not to take up the minerals from the soil, meaning a GMO will not have the same nutrients as an organic one. We end up missing out on important cancer preventing minerals like Selenium.

- The Terminator Seed - This is a seed that is sterile, so if you can get countries buying your terminator seed (through one means or another) they will have to come back to you to buy the next lot of seeds. They won't have their own seeds anymore.

- If a GMO crop gets into a farmer's field, it tends to take over his crop. He then has to pay a percentage of his takings to Monsanto as it is their GMO. He doesn't want the GMO crop there, but the GMO crop is designed to take over.

- Monsanto is a huge attempt to control the world's food supply whilst making a lot of money from it. Once a country is dependent on your for their food, you can cut off their food supply to make them dance to your tune. Even more useful than oil

- Look into the Food Modernisation Bill, e.g. it will be illegal to grow vegtables in your own garden. This is another tentacle from the same beast, to help Monsanto and their GMO's control the food supply. Look into CODEX too (coming to the EU), they are banning many good natural supplements which extend people's lives by improving nutrition.

Don't take my word for it though, research for yourself

complete bullshit: Africans are dying due to their complete inability to form any type of cohesive government that will allow the people to prosper. :2 cents:

Have you asked the manufacturer whether they've changed their recipe?

TondaB 04-29-2011 10:43 AM

I have not contacted the manufacturer - although that is not a bad idea. I figured if it breaks me out in an allergic reaction, it doesn't really matter why?

Real bacon is way to greasy and salty for me. It would upset my tummy for sure!

Could it be chemicals or preservatives they are putting in the stuff?

Recently I have been going into sneezing fits after eating some foods, so I assume it is something they are adding to the food. I used to eat these same items and never had a problem....now I do.

Probably, just something small and I guess it would be nice to know what it is so I do not have to experience this rash again. Perhaps I WILL research this.

PS: I sure missed you this year in Phx.

sadiedazzle 04-29-2011 03:58 PM

Yeah you totally can become allergic to food later in life. No wonder with all of the crap they put in processed foods. I think at a certain age your body just can't take all of the poisons being loaded into it. Just my two cents.
