A taxi ride to remember, from New York to Los Angeles

Story here

Hailing a taxi in New York City is hard enough, what with fighting off other would-be passengers and getting the attention of a swerving, speeding cabbie.

Getting the taxi to drive you from New York to Los Angeles? Fugghetaboutit.

At least that's what the father of John Belitsky, a former taxi driver himself, said when he heard about his son's plan to pay a cab driver $5,000 to bring him and his friend Dan Wuebben from the East Coast to the West Coast in one trip.

Six days and 3,000 miles later, Belitsky put an exclamation point on the journey with an unadorned post on his Twitter page: DONE.

That's retarded... I'd rather rent a Lamborghini and get pussy along the way.

Many, many years ago I was in NY working on a shoot and was told there was work for me and my friend in LA for us.

So we checked the back of, I think the NY Times, found the ads for delivering a car. Phoned a few companies, found one that needed to be delivered to Sacramento and me and her got paid to deliver it, plus petrol money. Got the idea from the original Cannonball Rally Film. I think.

Was a top of the line Ford and the owner was a Captain in the USAF.

Had a great time, saw many place I had only read about of seen in movies. Saw the Grand Canyon which was breath taking and stayed in Vegas. When all the pit bosses middle name was "the" like "Jimmy the Gun. LOL

Took a Greyhound bus back to LA after we delivered the car.

One of those trips I will remember for ever.

have fun with this one... that will be $350 per tank BTW, and I'll guarantee they aren't going to let you put 3k on the miles clock for that price.. . :2 cents:

Says that you are restricted to 100 miles per day, excess fees to cover wear and tear for overage apply

It would be 93 or HIGHER octane, right? It's really that hard to get? I'm on the south-east coast of Australia and here we have the choice of 91, 95, 98 and E10 (10% ethanol)

marcop 04-24-2011 10:18 AM

The highest octane I usually see here in LA is 91.

ottopottomouse 04-24-2011 11:42 AM

Boohoo nobody loves me i'm leaving didn't last very long.

$1183.75 / day
Additional days are only $995.00 / day
$9470.00
+taxes / surcharges / delivery fees, if appl

V_RocKs 04-24-2011 11:55 AM

BTW, this same taxi ride was taken by 100's of people after 911 stranded millions of people in far flung destinations.

I personally drove people from LAX to Kentucky and then grabbed people coming back that went from Denver to LAX...

-great story bro pic-

acctman 04-24-2011 06:33 PM

my local Shell gas station is 93 octane v-power. I think some BP's are 93 as well, it just depends on the neighborhood I'm assuming. if here is a higher need for 93+ in your neighborhood then gas stations will carry it.

PornMD 04-24-2011 09:17 PM

Where tf did 93 octane go? Gas stations here have been lowering over time. I think even the lowest used to be 88 or 89, now 87, and the highest is 91...this seems to be the case at almost any station I go to here.

John-ACWM 04-24-2011 09:54 PM

There are better ways for sure. It was an experience nonetheless for the guy.

marlboroack 04-24-2011 10:40 PM

Don't NY taxis who are even owned by private owners have to stay within the NY by law?

Really? Next time you buy gas, take a pic with your cell phone. I drive all over this country and this state and 93 is very rare and I do not believe I have seen it anywhere in CA. I know I haven't seen it when I was on my bike.

MrMaxwell 04-25-2011 07:10 AM

I definitely remember seeing 93 in FL and TX
My 1990 Seville ran better on it than it did on 91

One of those things I notice, octane ratings.. I'm crazy

magicmike 04-25-2011 08:59 AM

oh man, I couldn't imagine being in a taxi for that long.

The Heron 04-25-2011 09:26 AM

Sounds stupid and not original
