I still have "The Psychedelic Furs" and "Forever Now" ... on tape! and "Mirror Moves"... on vinyl! (and I had the same hairstyle as Richard Butler for years, although not anymore!) :1orglaugh

harvey 04-22-2011 11:36 PM

here, have some Magazine to make the indie party complete!

and some Brian Eno (this original version is way better than Bauhaus' cover)

and more Brian Eno! (just because that's what I'm listening at right now! :1orglaugh)

They kind of remind me these guys. Always liked this, from the movie "Valley Girl" in 1983.

starring.. Deborah Foreman.. an American actress. She was born in 1962 at Montebello, California.

the future's open wide

The collaborations between Eno and Fripp were incredible - "Third Uncle" is one of my favorite songs! :thumbsup

And moving along...

A fitting Easter song:

Deborah Foreman for those in the know

I listened to them like in a "second wave" with Talk Talk, The Bolshoi, This Mortail Coil and everything 4AD released. I was living in a small town with only 2 record stores and one of them brought every single 4AD release for me. I bought them all, and quite frankly there was a lot of crap, but also some amazing gems, until they signed Pixies... and the rest is history, I never looked back :thumbsup

I went out for Chinese food tonight near where a Tower Records used to be. I was reminiscing about how I would spend hours checking music there...

There are still some independent stores here in the Bay Area, but times sure have changed.

And who can forget:

I missed a lot of that early 80s British stuff but I happened to catch that song along the way and really liked it. :thumbsup I need to expand my horizons on that stuff like the clash, the cure, psy furs ect.

lol that avatar (deborah foreman) will never fly around here. :) I was always hot for DF. Actually we're only a couple years apart so my avatar is not as creepy as it seems. lol

Vjo 04-23-2011 12:45 AM

i picked up a "virus scan" from one of the sites off Google images getting the DF pics. no biggee, she was worth it

What was so special about them at the time is that they were an alternative to the homogenized rock music that was being churned out at the time (some of which was still pretty damn good).

I like Love and Rockets best. First time there too. Def a good early 80s sound. They are all pretty good of the four Harvey posted, the first one best then #2 second best.

Good stuff all round :thumbsup

This i always liked

1980 - the beginning of Punk. All these hot babes would line up along Hennepin just south of Lake St in Mpls. Me and my friend cruised it in my 67 Camaro with this song blaring out. We were both studs in 1980. lol true

turn it up BAYBEE and lets see that punky thang.. 1980's Fosgate Booster for afficionados lol .. throwing sound off the book store on the corner. Waldon Books I believe and throughout the street. Turning heads. That was how it was done. lol :thumbsup

The best song ever!! Call ME

---

I am looking for the New Years eve version of Call Me that was telecast live. It was kick ass. I think I have it on vid cassette.

Lucky for the world I am going to be tearing up youtube when my shit hits.
I finally have a good handle and acct. I have some good versions of songs from 1983 (start of vid cassette) to about 1995. I just have to start dubbing.

Hot versions of many babe songs NOT on YT yet

The live version of the B-52s Channel Z from SNL. Not the rehearsal.

Suzanne Vega doing Luka on SNL .. not available.. very hot.

Bangles many hot live versions not on YT incl Manic Monday.

I collected hot babes. little did I know about computers in 1985. I just seen hot vids and thought "collect".

I have a totally clear version of this

I think i might do a poll.. blonde or brunette in The Human League. :)

What do you think? Will all you pervs get over and vote?

It is actually a tough call.

Vjo 04-23-2011 04:18 AM

The Human League are an English electronic New Wave band formed in Sheffield, England in 1977

aaah sorry Brits.

Anyhow very sexy group. One of the sexiest. I guess I'll skip the poll but I would vote for the blonde now days. It used to be the brunette altho the brunette is smokin hot in Facination

Alright 3 more human league to listen to.

In the spirit of six degrees of separation, back in the 80s I had a roommate who's girlfriend was the sister of the drummer for the Furs :winkwink:

I wasn't impressed because at the time I wasn't into that kind of music and was much more into Rock n Roll. They couldn't even get me to go to one of their concerts. As time wore on I began a greater appreciation for this music and even though I still don't have the Furs in my collection I do have several of the other artists in this thread stored on my iPod :)

CaptainHowdy 04-23-2011 06:55 AM

No, thank you ...

Xer0 04-23-2011 07:17 AM

I have their album.
Good shout.

BTW - Love my way was featured in Grand Theft Auto: Vice city ;-)
