Holy shit! Bacon in an oven.

I watched a cooking show where this dude cooked bacon in an oven...so I had to try it. And boy am I glad I did!!! It's easy and cooks the bacon perfectly! Crispy where it's supposed to be and without the burn. I'm in love!

Oven at 400 for 15 minutes. Wow!

Intrinsic 04-12-2011 05:31 PM

yap cover it in foil or you'll do this

Don't pre-heat the oven ... Make sure the oven is cold when you put the bacon in.

I'm from the south so my grandma and mom just threw it into a big cast iron skillet and then used the grease to cook the eggs and home fries. I never thought of cooking it in an oven.

Now do yourself a favor, and find a butcher / specialty store that has Berkshire Bacon, and cook it the same way.

That should be a country song. :2 cents:

Tam 04-12-2011 06:45 PM

My husband must have watched that too, he started doing this a couple of months ago and now he's the only one allowed to cook it here. It saves me getting the hell beat out of me by my own breakfast. lol

He puts wax paper down and then the bacon and it doesn't seem to be so greasy and then he lays it on paper towels to drain the rest of the fat from it.

brassmonkey 04-12-2011 07:23 PM

i don't like bacon too much

I am not sure about wax paper but regular paper doesn't burn until 454 degrees.

Huh ........

Agent 488 04-12-2011 10:07 PM

very dangerous way of cooking it. in 2010 there were 2354 house fires caused by over bacon last year. 51 deaths.

marlboroack 04-13-2011 09:48 AM

Very nice math skills Agent, add 3 9's to each number above ( not 2010 ) and you have the AIDS toll.

A+++++

Oh god. Do I ever remember that at my grandmothers.. Home made biscuits eggs and bacon. All made in a cast iron skillet sooooo seasoned that that NOTHING would stick to it.

huey 04-13-2011 09:58 AM

My ex did this and also sprinkled the bacon with brown sugar before baking. Awesome.

Tom_PM 04-13-2011 10:01 AM

Probably parchment paper. Parchment is impregnated with silicone and is good up to 450 degrees or so. I use it for bread and pizza and such and nothing sticks to it until you've used the same piece 5 times or so. (yeah you can reuse it)

PR_Glen 04-13-2011 10:22 AM

way better way to do it, any fires caused by it are from people who don't pay attention to their ovens.. you can't leave the kitchen while cooking bacon regardless...

according to Bradbury paper burns at 451 F ;)

Gabriel 04-13-2011 10:24 AM

We do this as well, only she starts it in the pan to cook off some of the fat then transfers it to the oven to finish cooking. We get flat crispy evenly cooked bacon every time.

candyflip 04-13-2011 10:28 AM

Now dip it in chocolate and eat it like that.

I had that at the Fair earlier this year and it was actually really fucking good!

The guy on the show dredged the bacon with flour before putting it into the oven. Most of the flour cooks away but it made the bacon cook more even. I've tried it both ways and honestly can't tell the difference, other than one has flour residue and the other doesn't.

Thinning of the herd. I bet you 2353 of those were drunks that passed out right after thinking to themselves, "damn, bacon sounds good right about now!".

sinner!!

Sarah_Jayne 04-13-2011 03:16 PM

I have done that off and on for years. I just like the way it crisps better than if it sits in its own fat and fries.

SleazyDream 04-13-2011 03:18 PM

I broil my bacon in the oven- much better that way!

can you whisper that in my ear...slowly.

~Ray 04-13-2011 05:22 PM

that is the restaurant way.. we did it in the navy as well.

grease the sheet pan, place bacon on it, place in 400 degree over for about 20 minutes.

flat, evenly cooked bacon.

order up!

I tried it and the bacon tasted dry and shitty

John-ACWM 04-14-2011 01:18 AM

It depends on the bacon and the cook.

TeenCat 04-14-2011 01:28 AM

congrats on the sale

CaptainHowdy 04-14-2011 05:57 AM

Bump for bacon ...

CurrentlySober 04-14-2011 06:09 AM

Bacon is an 'unclean' meat...

DamianJ 04-14-2011 06:13 AM

Sausages are also best cooked in the oven. By far. 20 mins @ 180, turn them once.

Yes of course, it's ok as long as you don't leave it unattended, as with anything you put in the oven. We cook it on 375, nowhere near 450, that cooks it too fast and it burns very quickly.... 375 cooks more even and doesn't turn it into crumbs. I like mine crispy, not crumbs.

fatfoo 04-14-2011 07:12 AM

Bacon in oven sounds good. It might be better than bacon in microwave or frying pan.

sperbonzo 04-14-2011 07:32 AM

I try to only eat Kosher bacon....

:)

If you're using wax paper, you really should switch to Parchment. The wax paper is meant more for freezing or your refrigerator, since the wax melts at high temps.

NETbilling 04-14-2011 09:30 AM
