The mountain lions are of much greater concern than the bears...as they usually attack from ambush...above and behind...and go for the neck. I wear a device to help protect my neck. I am always more concerned for my dog than myself.

Shouldnt worry about the dog it can run faster than a person and over much worse terrain plus it will be more alert to its surroundings.

Yes...and of course I carry pepper spray...a hugh knife...a .357 Mag and sometimes a .30-06 rifle...but usually just the Mag. There are a lot of lions here...but more bears.

Well...my dog decided to go after a bear one day...and the bear turned back to meet him...but I fired a couple of rounds from my Mag...the dog stopped and the bear took off at a run.
