Every fucking institution I use for anything just got their Email DB stolen.

Tough weekend for a lot of companies. Ralphs (supermarket) just informed me my Email was stolen. Everyone with a Ralphs card can now expect a lot of spam. Then Chase send me an Email a few hours later letting me know their DB of Emails was stolen too. Next, a gas cards Email DB was stolen and then a pizza company.

Reading the Chase Email it seems a clearing house they used for their mailers was the actual victim so it is highly likely all of the other companies used the same mailer too.

Time to get ready for a shitstorm of spam...

Or just change your e-mail address. It's refreshing to do every once in a while. :)

I'm at Chase. Good thing I use gmail and the spam blockers they use are awesome.

I bet you Epsilon figured they didn't need to be super dilligent about security since its just Email addresses...

u-Bob 04-04-2011 01:11 PM

That's why i use a different email address for every service I sign up for, for every program I join, for every membership,....

icymelon 04-04-2011 02:29 PM

yeah I got emails about that from tivo and chase today

Since e-mail addresses aren't physical material and can be copied without losing the original, this isn't stealing at all.

It's just time shifting...

CYF 04-04-2011 02:48 PM

you use a throw away email address for all the junk right?

right??

My thoughts exactly.
After all, this can be a shady industry to work in.

I use a catch all so I make all the sites [email protected] emails to track who does what with it.
