I know a person whose life has been totally

...destroyed by drugs. This person was injured more than ten years ago and the Doctor prescribed pain pills and kept prescribing them until the person was fully addicted. When this Doctor finally figured out that the person was an addict and cut off the pain pills...the person just went Doctor shopping and when...and it was seldom...the person could not find a Doctor to prescribe pain pills...the person bought them off the street. As the addiction progressed the persons life began going down hill...and more than ten years later...has lost everything. The person's life is in total shambles...and being a full blown druggie can see no way out.

Now I realize that a person is responsible for their actions...but from my view point the original Doctor should have some culpability for this person's addiction as well as all of the other Doctors...and there has been many.

I wonder if anyone has attempted to hold a Doctor/Doctors legally liable for their addiction?

I still dont see how people can get addicted to the feeling those things give you . Always made me feel worse.

Sounds like Michael Jackson more or less (add more years and change a few details). Seriously, that story can apply to so many people.

Tell him to fake his death on an Internet message board. As they say, when the going gets rough, Pathfinder pretends he's going!

why does it always have to be someone else's fault?

If you have ever known someone with severe pain problems, back for instance they will do anything to ease the sudden pain. Dr's prescribe hard drugs which are eagerly taken with the understanding once the source of the pain is fixed the drugs stop.

What happens if the problem isn't corrected and the pain doesn't stop? Doesn't mean it's someone else's fault but it might not be the fault of the person with the habit either.

If the person is just a pill freak that's a different story.

So, TheKing is going to sue his Dr for his drug addiction?

Sad story...

I'm sure it's extremely common. Go to any hospital for anything and express nervousness or anxiety and you'll have to turn down offers for drugs. Nobody will ask you why really, they'll just offer you some Prozac or what have you.
