What a long journey it has been to now have .XXX approved.

One common comment against .XXX has been for companies that don't have "triple X" content, and having a .xxx extension would give the wrong message (ie. playboy)

Why not have the REAL adult community create an .adult gTLD?

Yes, i realize it could create the same monster of a headache has a way to universally block (ie. india), but as us techies understand, there are current ways to already block/filter adult content anyways.

You can take on one of the spin points of .XXX is that it creates like a "good housekeeping" seal of approval that the website owner is a real business (ie. insert laff track) owner and ethical because they have adopted the .xxx TLD and that consumers will know exactly what they are going to be looking at when they put in .XXX, and apply it to .adult

like adding "in bed" to a fortune cookie message, replace ".xxx" with ".adult" on any pro-.XXX argument and you could have a compelling case for .adult

.....especially if it was created by the adult community so that the profits of the domains goes back to the community.

Yep, I'd go for it. I'd also try to push through others, so you'd have .adult, .kid, .porn, .sex, .gay, .lesbian, and so on.

They want to try to monopolize the online adult industry? Fuck 'em, saturate the market with TLDs.

1. make attempts to make the use of a .xxx domain mandatory for adult content more difficult.
2. make all those alternative tlds (including .xxx) more useless and increase the value of .coms.

As long as .xxx is passed then I am all for it. Competition will be a good thing if it ever is mandated that we must use it.

What exactly does this mean though? Does it mean you are going to give MY money to a panel of BROS (most of which are the same scumbags who destroyed the paysite industry) who will use it to come up with ways to hurt my business and help themselves? I say just let us keep as much money as possible. No $70 or $100 per domain bullshit. Make it the industry standard $10 or less if possible.

actually, i was thinking that FSC be the registry for any adult-related domains so that the money goes to fund its efforts to defend the adult space.

with it being adult-community controlled, i would imagine the price per domain would not be the outrageous costs that ICM is putting out, but something alot more manageable for those that do have thousands of domains.

one, ignorant, comment that has been made about FSC is that they don't do enough for the adult. It takes alot of money to mount legal challenges, to have resources to focus on issues on a city/state level.

having a revenue stream like registrar fees for domains would be an interesting fundraising approach to help FSC do all of the things that its members and non-members want it to do.

Look at how successful NRA is with its lobbying.. they have millions of members paying them membership dues.

Instead of relying on a large group of memberships to FSC, turn it around to have the proceeds of the .adult, .gay, .lesbian be the money maker that goes towards protecting the industry, much like what the NRA does.

While they for sure have done some good, I would like to point out that they did fail on an epic level against .XXX and 2257. Probably two of the biggest issues we've had to face as an industry.

It was Connections Magazine and J. Michael Murry who had a victory on 2257, not the FSC.

But to your comment about .adult, there are positive and negatives to that. Positives would be the obvious, as you stated. However, the negatives to more TLDs is that there will be that much more porn online. For every TLD created for porn, you just doubled the amount of porn online, which eventually would blow up in our faces as porn would literally dominate the internet after a few porn based TLDs were created.

I would only agree to this when the FSC is run by a Volunteer.

Right this instant her Salary is most likely 2 times what 90% of the people around here make a year. And dont think for a second it would not Jump.

What kind of prices exactly would we be talking about here? If the FSC gave itself 50 cents or $1 from each domain I probably won't be complaining too much. But if you decide to set the price at $30 per domain because ICM has their price so high and you think you can get away with it then I am going to be upset.

In general I'd like to keep my money for myself and pay industry standard domain fees. If I decide to do so I may then donate to a given organization if I think they are doing a good job and represent my interests.

Before they came to their senses and voted otherwise, the FSC was going to get $7 or $8 per .XXX domain.

At least they changed their minds. Pretty sad what much of this industry has turned into.

Actually, the FSC Board never voted in support of .XXX and the Executive Director who was in favor was canned.
