Now, I agree that content is King but I also believe that good site design helps convert.

For example, if a site is just annoying to navigate and browse content - then that will put of a visitor or potentially regular member.

I do nothing but talk about it. The problem is so many think their future, what's left of it, is invested in what's not on the site. They will always shout me down. But I won't be quiet.

This industry spends approximately 50% of it's turn over on what's outside the site and 10% on what's on or inside the site. That's 50% spent on affiliates and making sure they're happy and 10% on making members happy. :upsidedow

Go figure why now both are unhappy.

Or to put it another way 50% on teaching surfers not to buy and 10% teaching them to buy, converting and retaining them.

The industry has mainly been shaped to accommodate the traffic model and very little to accommodate the revenue side.

And still when it's clearly wrong you get statements like this.

The amount of conversions, retention and returning members is the only thing that counts. Unless I've missed something the only thing that brings in money to this business is sign ups.

Not traffic, not design and they are needed but a great deal of traffic and a great design doesn't make a pornsite great. Look at Tubes, lousy design, loads of content, loads of traffic and lousy conversion ratios.

If you want to make a great porn paysite the top requirement is great content. If you are opening a site to compete with Playboy, Penthouse styles you employ a Playboy, Penthouse shooter. Not someone who has never sold a set to them or never likely to.

If you want a great Gonzo, Amateur or Reality site you employ a great Gonzo, Amateur or Reality shooter and you DON'T shoot in Russia, Czech, Hungary or any country where the girls can't speak a word of English.

What you don't do is load the site with cheap, repetitive porn that's soul less and shot by people who can't work in the offline porn business because they're cheap.

Too many sites today churn out the same old tired ideas that have been done to death. Even sites from people like Manwin are full of poor to average content with scenarios that were old hat before the Internet came into porn.

And yes there are newish ideas that haven't been completely done to death.

So what stops people?

You can't shoot great porn for the budgets sponsors pay. They are happier to spend 50% of their turnover throwing traffic at it that's not very impressed when it gets to the site and leaves.

Depends the market & niche, considering there are 7billion people in the world with very different views over whats hot, erotic & pleasurable.

Most of us like decent quality footage, with charisma & art. If you placed a high quality, closeup photo of a flower with all its beauty in amongst a load of porn photos, most people would flick through the porn, then stop on the flower, because of the creativity & quality of the photo.

The content, the amount is definatly important in all niches. With only a little content in a site, one becomes bored, maybe never to return. The depth & extent of the content is extremely important. Its ok having a crap load of the same but to have lots of different niches taken to the max, available in the same area. No one feels the same everyday, even our fantasises change throughout the month.

These days, also price matters! Everyone wants a deal. You could sell a dead horse to a goat hurder if he was getting a free goat with it...

Tubes have the best design in online adult to date IMO. It's extremely simplistic, everyone knows the universal layout and knows where the "top rated", "most viewed", "categories" etc links are, it is standardized. You can't design a members area much more member friendly than that unfortunately. And that's another reason tubes are so popular. They are setup better than 95% of paysites. Yesssss we know all the free porn is what attracted everyone to them and made them familiar with the design, but that's really besides this point. The design is great, piracy and whatnot aside.

As far as the repeated bland content flooded on most of them and shitty ratios, yeah couldn't agree with you more. But for now you CAN build traffic fast as a motherfucker and CONVERT IT. PERIOD.
