Photography On The Cheap :::

For all you guys that want to shoot but don't have any lights, check out what this guy did. It's not amazing photography but it proves that you can make beautiful pictures with a minimal investment in lighting and a bit of knowledge.

Do halogen bulbs come in different temperatures? Thats what these lights are using.

If I were gonna shoot with those, I'd set my camera white balance to tungsten, make sure I'm shooting raw and rock on. I'd guess those lights are 2800K to 3200K.

Good points :thumbsup

I know youre the best and know better n all... Its a shame so many photographers are copasetic with tungsten hues and deliver as such. But then again... Id have a bit less work to do then wouldnt I ;)

A stupid idea for porn and for shooters who aren't really good.

The drawer backs are as follows. Color balance, depth of field and heat. Plus this set up will make the shooter look like a complete fool. Try setting this up in a living room.

Do we need more lame shooters shooting porn who can't afford a few grand for a decent strobe kit?

Better idea would be to;

Not bother.

I thought you were retired. Don't worry about the competition. :2 cents:

Paul Markham 03-26-2011 02:51 AM

Here you go a much better way than that idea.

Cheap, portable, adjustable, usable in all locations, no heat, no Depth f field problems and no color balance problems. And probably cheaper than this idea.

Flash photography On The Cheap.

Dean is absolutely no competition to me. He didn't sell to mags, never had a content store and no competition as I don't shoot for custom clients who pay peanuts.

Even retired I have the honesty to point out a stupid idea when I see it. Not just kiss ass of a bro, because he's a bro.

Sabby 03-26-2011 02:57 AM

I just bought these real cool umbrella softbox thingies... they are like bigass umbrella lights but with a back black zip enclosure. so it makes them like a softbox. I fucking love them.

Sabby:)

very funny: the light changes color temp as they are pulled down in intensity. this is why kinos cost so damn much... when they are dialed down the color temp stays the same...

I see this as way to get you guys completely fucked up.... because if you don't know what you're doing 'in camera' with this cheap crap you're gonna be fucked in post $.02

Paul, you did not see the idea behind this thread. I clearly seen why this thread was created.

No pro shooter would never shoot in this fashion to sell and deliver adult content.
I will not wait all day to have a model hold completely while shooting super slow shutter speeds for each composed shot. NO way.

Here in America this will make you look like a total and complete GWC.

Hey girls I wanna shoot hot naked photos of you using, shower curtains and lights I bought at Walmart or Home Depot. NOT!

JFK 03-26-2011 10:02 AM

Actually a pro shooter might to create something very different. But there are much easier ways.

IMO this is a dumb idea for a pro or amateur shooter and would cost more than the flashes I linked to. And be less affective. Putting a cheap flash on a tripod with a lead attached to fire it and using filters for effect is a much better way.

It's a useless idea for any shooter and showing it and saying this

"It's not amazing photography but it proves that you can make beautiful pictures with a minimal investment in lighting and a bit of knowledge."

Does Dean a dis-service.

If I had posted this lame idea everyone would be rightly flaming me. Just because Dean posted it doesn't make it a good idea. That's the problem with GFY. The messenger is more important than the message.

JFK is spot on if you want to take cheap pictures.

one usually come with the camera... canon has one and Nikon has one and there are third party apps as well. watched a guy shoot fashion with a 5d, the pics popped right up on his laptop as he was shooting for the stylist/MUA to view etc...

dyna mo 03-26-2011 12:46 PM

hmm, i didn't get that with my nikon dslr. i got the view nx software, that's about it.

must be for the high end cameras eh?

I believe that Adobe Lightroom has this feature.

Many high-end shooters use Capture One Pro.

DWB 03-26-2011 01:53 PM

Great videos.

I think I've tried just about every portable lighting solution known to man (and Jerry rigged them all) to work as both photo and video lights, along with every type of bulb you can buy at the local hardware store. You'd be surprised what you come up with when you're in some 3rd world shit hole.

DWB 03-26-2011 01:55 PM

Dean... btw... thanks for the heads up on that email company in your sig. That works GREAT! I jacked part of your sig. :-)

I don't hate you, just think this isn't a good idea. For the reasons stated.

I don't even hate trolls who assume it's got to be great idea because you said it.

I wish you well also.

DWB I used to use the idea I posted of flashes on a tripod and fired by an light sensitive trigger and a flash on my camera. Suggest you use a light meter to get the exposure spot on. Depth of field is tight, but not as tight as it would be. plus in Thailand the heat of these lights would be a factor.

As for video, they are so good today, nearly any light will do.
