WMV files

I am using embeded wmv files. I am using the code from Microsofts Knowledge Base. Sometimes the wmv files play sometimes they don't but instead they just hang. Has anyone else encountered this problem and is there a solution? By the way this does not seem to happen with mpg files.

theking,
If you are using Dreamweaver macromedia has an extension that embeds the files and has some options that make it easy. Check out there site.

I am not using Dreamweaver, but thanks anyhow. I don't get it. Sometimes they play all the way through without hanging. Sometimes they play part of the way through then hang. Sometimes they hang from the very start.

Sometimes bandwidth is the major factor, but there are a few other things.

The ratio of sound / picture quality.

codecs used in the embedded file.
I need to use the older codecs to get over a flaw in media player 7 (sample below)

By default the video will stop when bandwidth constraints are hit.
Audio will continue to play though.

How are you encoding them?
What are the exact errors?

sample code:
I tried many ways of putting it in here, but it kept wanting to parse it. go to http://thesybian.com click on one of the girls and click on the 256k link on the right. view source and viola.

I am not getting any errors. I am using Video Edit Magic to change mpg's into wmv files. The video that you have displayed is just hanging for me. I am using Explorer 6 for my browser. I just re-installed it thinking that might be the problem. Yesterday the WMV files played just fine. Today they are hanging when played on my PC and on my site as well. I don't get it.

I did as you suggested and the videos there are just hanging for me so I must have a different problem then embeding them correctly. I will say again that yesterday the wmv files were working just fine.

Now they are all working just fine again on my PC and on my site. WTF.

Damn. The wmv files have quit working again on my PC and on my site. Anyone have an explanation for this phenom???

theking 01-21-2003 04:18 PM

I figured out the problem. Video Edit Magic apparently was not coverting the mpg to wmv correctly. The phenom was that when I had a file loaded into Video Edit Magic all wmv files worked properly. When I closed Video Edit Magic the wmv files would no longer work. That is weird in and of itself. I solved the encoding problem by downloading Microsoft's encoder. Problem solved. Now I have reconvert all of the mpg files to wmv files.
