VPS servers - good idea?

Talked to a hosting company yesterday and basically I could replace my four servers for about $40($10 each). Totally amazing! But they would be VPS servers.

RAM 265 Mb
CPU 500 Mhz
HDD Quota 10 Gb
Traffic 300 Gb

Thinking of coming on board selling these as the price is insane but want to know if anyone uses a virtual server.

if its too good to be true

What do your 4 servers actually do? Perhaps you might be able to consolidate their collective functionality into a single machine. It won't be as cheap as $40, but you'll still be saving a good chunk of cash...

FWIW, 256MB of RAM doesn't really sound sufficient.

It depends on what you are doing with your dedicated.

For needs based hosting, VPS is a solid choice. Especially for the higher plans at $30-50.00.

Decent bandwidth and storage.
:2 cents:

I would need one server with some better specs but I am pretty much winding down adult and mainstream 1000 hits a day is a big deal. One big server would do it but this way I get more seperation so I might try to group up a bit but at those prices why bother?

If i can sit in different machines with a good ip spread...

Amerinoc's VPS is the bomb.

80 GB Disk Space
100 MBPS Unmetered
Private XenHVM VPS
6 Unique IPs
1 GB RAM + 1 Core

$49 per month no setup.

Or why not $99 a month no setup for 3gig ram + 3 cores and 240gig space.

:thumbsup

He might be better off with the single server.

RAM 265 Mb * 4 = ~ 1060 MB
CPU 500 Mhz * 4 = 2.0 Ghz
HDD Quota 10 Gb = 40 GB
Traffic 300 Gb = 1.2 TB

There are companies who are offering better servers than the above for about the same price.

Yeah, I grabbed one of these while they had a 50% off promotion on your first
bill, So I signed up for a year, Saved $294 what a deal.

I've used nothing but dedicated boxes so far, So I wasn't sure what to expect
from a VPS, And I have to say that I absolutely love it. I'll be picking up another
soon for some mainstream stuff I'm working on.

:thumbsup

He'll learn the hard way though. People never listen to the obvious when they
set their eyes on money.

Not going to argue to hard as this is true more often then not. BUT I use some of the sites as more backlinks then traffic. So they are not doing much more then sitting there.

I agree, he'd be better off with a small single server.
