Guess who thinks its unconstitutional to attack another country without Congressional approval?
The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.

I thought this was going to be a Ron Paul thread.

do you think Muammar Gaddafi is ANY threat to the US nation? |
He didnt need Congressional approval. Its a joint operation, voted on and approved by NATO.

For example, just because a bunch of countries voted for the Kyoto treaty, it STILL had to be ratified by congress. . |

And later in that same article, Hilary Clinton is quoted as saying (also in 2007):
"The President has the solemn duty to defend our Nation. If the country is under truly imminent threat of attack, of course the President must take appropriate action to defend us. At the same time, the Constitution requires Congress to authorize war. I do not believe that the President can take military action -- including any kind of strategic bombing -- against Iran without congressional authorization. " . |

No questions that Qaddafi is a murdering scum bag, from the time he took power to the UTA and Pan Am flights and to the current situation. But why the selective outrage over Libya and not over Yemen and Bahrain? And what about Iran and the 5 to 20 executions a day there for such grave offenses as being gay or being raped and bringing shame to their family, but yet not a peep from the international community.
Or yet again, the Ivory Coast President lost the elections but refuses to go and is killing people by the dozens pretty much every day, where is the international community? It seems pretty strange that the UK and France that were real bed fellows with Qaddafi are in such a hurry to take him out. Poor Qaddafi must be thinking why the international community did not act in such haste with Saddam? Maybe the UK and France want to make sure know one knows about all of the shady deals they had with Libya... |

I don't think France is worried about Libyan flooding in, they are more concerned about Tunisians and Algerians. Plus Libya used to be Italians in the old days... http://allafrica.com/stories/201103210015.html http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/1239...ance-libya.htm |
