So, will mandatory dot xxx put an end to porn piracy?

Will mandatory .xxx put an end to porn piracy?

Discuss :)

ICM Registry will offer current intellectual property owners the opportunity to reserve relevant domain names before going to the open market, enabling them to protect their brand names and intellectual property rights within .XXX.

slapass 03-18-2011 02:48 PM

Good luck with that.

peedy 03-18-2011 08:24 PM

How does keeping someone from taking topbucks.xxx compare with someone taking their content?

agreed...I don't think it is any different that having .com, .net, .whatever doesn't change anything, .xxx is a marketing gimmick ...

I read it as both trademark and content protection (intellectual property rights).

If mandatory, anyone hosting or distributing porn will be forced into .xxx. Or risk losing the domain. Register and running a .xxx domain will require going through the identification process. Most criminals will not go through that process :upsidedow

Actually they have stated there will be a seven person panel made up of various people including "industry leaders" and that $10 from each domain registered will go to the operations of this panel and their activities. Want to take bets on whether or not it ends up being some scumbag company with ties to piracy who ends up on the board and gets to control your $10 per domain contribution?

Again, I wouldn't be surprised if borderline "criminals" end up on the seven person panel.

BlackCrayon 03-19-2011 06:44 AM

haha domains have nothing to do with content.

pornguy 03-19-2011 06:46 AM

Not unless someone bought tube8.xxx and wont sell it to them.

Barry-xlovecam 03-19-2011 07:03 AM

Don't think ICM (*xxx*) will be your white knight in the prevention of privacy — doubt it will go down that way ...

1. There is nothing that implies that.

2. It is not mandatory.

3. You are reading a lot more into this than I am, or you are reading entirely different articles.

Have some links that are causing you to come to these conclusions?
