United States Senate announces investigation into Google

The Senate Antitrust Subcommittee plan to examine Google?s activities for possible antitrust violations, is the latest indication that the Internet giant?s behavior is drawing increasingly skeptical ? and well deserved ? scrutiny in the nation?s capital....

If they could reverse the farmer update, I'd be 100% in favor.....

they are going to investigate anyone making money :2 cents:

cause the Senate is a bit slow right now, not too much to do, so they thought this might fill some time...

I am sure that this will be popular in the business community.
To a certain extent, Google's ventures into the non-search market and their SERP practices in connection with that have made Google a target.

In short, Google set themselves up for this ...

"Consumer Watchdog has been pushing the Department of Justice, The Federal Trade Commission and Congress to investigate Google for more than two years"

"In this regard, we will closely examine allegations raised by e-commerce websites that compete with Google that they are being treated unfairly in search ranking, and in their ability to purchase search advertising."

Wait? So is this for consumers or is this other business pushing?

Something is smelling fishy...

That update pissed a lot of people off. The funny thing is that it seems to have hit more legit sites than illegitimate sites. There are quite a few phrases I tested out where with over 3 million pages in the results sites which scrape Yahoo answers still come up on the first page.

I read that because of the update a Billion dollars of business has been wiped and some 300,000 people will lose their jobs. You are right in saying the update has hit the legit websites. The search results now are full of crappy spam websites. I dont know if google just messed up big on this or there is some secret plan by them to wipe out competitors.

I have been waiting for Google to get investigated for antitrust for a long time now.

I got knocked from #1 (had been there more than six months) to #22 for an important keyword - the site was nothing special but it exactly fit the search term and had 100% exclusive content. Now there are doorway pages, link dumps and duplicate content pages at #1-5 for that term :321GFY
