Why do scammers try harder than honest people?

Anyone ever noticed this? Someone trying to scam you will jump through hoops trying to make a buck, but the average honest person does just enough to get by and is lazy after that. Maybe it's because people making money illegally usually make more and are more motivated?

I've often wondered the same. If a scammer put the same amount of effort into an honest venture you would think they would do pretty well for themselves.

scammer have no borders. if you say to scammer stop, he will continue even harder doesnt matter how much money is there. and, you hear mostly only about scammers, you cant see in the news that some affiliate made a bank, but you see bad scammer boys :winkwink: thats why "so many" scammers is around :2 cents:

I got scammed for over $60,000. It happened instantly. Scammers scam because they are incapable of doing anything else. In my case, it was a condo which I sent the money where the realtor told me to send the money for the deposit.

She was quite sophisticated in scamming, had a nice car (which wasn't hers) Wined and dined me, showed me her rich friends, who really are rich, but didn't know this bitch was now broke.

So in the end scammers scam when the are desperate and have no real skills.

After years of living and working in the Dominican Republic I feel like I am an expert on scammers.

This is what I have observed in the last 11 years, I am going to change the word "Dominican" to "scammer" so I feel like less of a racist.

Scammers are always in a hurry to get paid, they have to get paid before they get busted.

Scammers are always are always trying to make up emergencies in order to circumvent procedures that were meant to prevent scamming.

Scammers feel that if they are not ripping you off, they are leaving money on the table. I have frequently seen scammers destroy business relationships that were worth thousands in honest business just to rip off hundreds. (or less)

Scammers go way overboard acting offended when called out on their scamming.

Scammers have a strange ability to temporarily believe their own bulshit.

iSpyCams 03-15-2011 05:49 AM

Scammers would rather steal a buck than make an honest ten.

They cannot brag to their scammer buddies about making an honest ten bucks, but for stealing a dollar they are heroes.

scamers are dirty but you ever know how to protect in fully form them

adult-help 03-15-2011 06:18 AM

because it brings results much faster.

I sat next to one at work, he was pretending to do IT work for our company, but 80% of the time he was creating scam websites. He got bored of them pretty quick, and would come up with another idea. He loved his Cookie Stuffing, used to make a fair bit doing that with eBay, until eventually they'd ban him and he'd have to start up again.

He easily had enough skills to be making decent money doing something honest, but that wasn't it, he enjoyed scamming, scamming was his hobby, he gained some kind of perverse satisfaction from scamming. They say this about certain thieves (not the ones who do it to feed their families), it doesn't matter how much money they have, they get a buzz out of stealing, that's the real reason they do it, it's like a drug addiction

Because a scammer runs out of money faster, easy money goes away very easy, scammers scam cause they dont have the talent to make money in an honest way, they're annoying parasites

I believe the same thing. I worked in an office with a guy who was very skilled at making people think he was more valuable than he actually is. We're all scattered now at different places, and I'm working from home.

I got a call yesterday from a friend who is about to get contracted to do some work for this "scammer". There was so much shady shit he was telling me -- it was scammer overload. I told him this dude is worthless and will try to get as much as possible by doing as little as possible. It's not his fault he was born with no talent, but I surely hope he fucking dies soon.

I have to say that most "successful" scammers have to have some sort of basic sales skills otherwise they wouldn't be getting "results".

Somewhere, a long time ago (maybe it was in the movie Glengary Glen Ross) I heard someone describe a true salesperson's motivation as being all about making/closing the sale, this is that's drives them, it's what completes them. The money they earn is just a secondary way of measuring how well they did.

I've always thought scammers might have similar personalities/motivations.

chaze 03-15-2011 07:10 PM

Funny I have to agree with this, if most scammers put half their effort into a business they would probably be rich. But I think the answer is lack of vision.

powershot 03-15-2011 07:17 PM

not that far removed from a dumpster diver.....digging for cans......some of them work there asses off ....for?

DBS.US 03-15-2011 08:00 PM

Scamming is a game, to some it's a sport they love to do. Some guys love to site at home with friends and watch a football game, a group of scammers will sit around a monitor and try to outsmart someone for cash and prizes.
