Importing Sponsor FLV's to Wordpress
I have played around with a few scripts for importing sponsor flv's to wordpress and the munkeytube import script works fine for tube themes but sucks when it comes to standard wordpress blogs.
Can anyone recommend a reliable method of importing sponsor flv csv files to wordpress in such a way as you end up with a post containing a player and the description text in the post content ? Any advice greatly appreciated. |
not sure if there's a way to do that other than a tube style theme with WP. can play FLV's there with any std WP player, ie flowplayer, etc
|
Munkytube only imports, it is up to the theme on how to display the information.
If you modify the theme to display your custom imported fields correctly you should have no issues. |
nothing to do with the plugin itself, most csv files will let you pick which variable to import the data too.
|
The problem with munkytube seems to be that you cant add multiple content fields.
for example adding the description, thumb and flv file together wont work, it just chooses one. Using the inbuilt munkeytube player on a normal wordpress site displays the first video and then the next posts on the same page tell you that you don't have flash installed. I'd like to be able to import the title, description, thumb, flv url all into the one post, munkeytube wont let me do that, so I am looking for other options. Any advice appreciated. |

thanks for the thread, let me know if you need some flvs

Give this a shot: Importer plugin But like others said, the theme matters. |
Thanks for the replies everyone, I already have the ability to import into tube style themes without any dramas. It's the posting and construction of plain wordpress posts into a standard theme where I am having problems with csv import.
I think it might be a good idea to contract out the task of writing a dedicated plugin, might post a job on scriptlance and see what I can come up with. |
you can use a plugin thats already available you just need to specify which goes where

If so, could you share it's name, as I am running out of ideas at this point. |
do you have a sample csv you can send me, so i can put up a demo and show you?
|
I had to do this for probably 20-30 blogs quite some time ago and what I did was have all the flvs (urls), description (this becomes the title of the post), and text for the post body in a txt file. The I wrote a simple code to import this to the database file (exported to my hard drive) and then import the database back...
Basically what I'm saying is if you have: url descr body in a text of csv file, simply pay a coder a few bucks to get it done for you. Hope this makes sense and it's far easier than it sounds... |

thanks fris, I just saw this, can manage imports fine, it's getting a player going on each imported post that's the issue.
sorry I missed this earlier.. cheers |
had bookmarked this plugin http://www.bin-co.com/tools/wordpres...cle_templates/
|
here is a plugin to import anything you want from csv http://www.puzcash.com/sets/import.zip
|
forgot to mention, you can add any new fields you want to import and if you want to import flv, just install flv plugin for wordpress and add the field flv
wp_post_date|wp_title|wp_content|wp_category|wp_ta gs|flv|thumb|and any other custom field you want the one downside, you can import only to one category |
The problem is that CSV dump does not update. You can import it into your wordpress tube, schedule for some future time, but what you will do when all the scheduled posts run out?
This is why XML files are much better than a CSV dump. The XML updates constantly so your wordpress tube does. You don't need to import the updated CSV's again and again, once set up, the XML feeds will update your site with fresh videos absolutely automatically. Also I'd suggest to synonymize and extend (amplify with some additional texts) the descriptions of syndicating posts to avoid SE filters :2 cents: |
the learning curve. I always do them one at a time. but if I took some time to figure out how to do them as an import the time I would save you probably be nothing compared to how long it would take to figure it out
|
with xml you will not have future work, correct, but most affiliate programs updating their feeds not frequently, so i must always controll the feeds. and with csv i can import over 500 posts at once and shedule them as frequently as i want for the full year. and another advantage with csv, that i can spin the full content as i want before importing, which has little more natural look than just syndicating a feed
