Is this the worst disaster in history?

an 8.5 earthquake, a tsunami AND a nuclear power plant meltdown :helpme

what else comes close? WWII but that's a war started by men

Considering how complicated our modern world has become, this might just be the tip of the iceberg. San Francisco or parts of the west coast crashing down into the ocean and sending tsunamis across the Pacific into Asia might be THE disaster that would a) sink stock and housing markets across the globe b) waste a lot of lives and c) create power vacuums that create their own cascading waves of instability which lasts generations.

THe more complex the system, the more power it takes to keep together, the costlier it is to piece back together.

this will be the 1st trillion $+ disaster, not counting the bailouts.

I don't think so. It's not the biggest earthquake, nor the biggest tsunami, nor the worst nuclear meltdown.

The victim number is also still low.

Don't forget that big chunk of the Canary Islands that is poised to drop in to the Atlantic and wipe out the eastern seaboard of the US.

I think it has opened a few peoples eyes - Japan has been bought to its knees and maybe other countries will realise that it can happen to anyone and they will not see it coming.

worst disaster for me was eating some bad shell fish :helpme oh man :1orglaugh

DaddyHalbucks 03-12-2011 04:42 PM

It was an 8.9 --not an 8.5. There is a big difference.

Are deaths in the hundreds of thousands yet? Nope.

Watch the video on the news channels, its pretty mind blowing and you will see that the latest official figures are not even in the ball park - I think it will come close to 2004.

Also remember its not over yet. The nuke power plants are seriously messed up.

Mother nature is sweeping the Earth clean ready for some new tenants who don't fuck up the planet ?

When the Yellowstone Supervolcano blows, that will be a near extinction event.
