What's better: Brazillian Jujitsu or Shaolin Kung Fu?
I have two gyms within 5 miles of my house and want to start training again. Their rates are similar, only the BJJ meets 4 times a week and the Kung Fu only twice.
If you could choose a martial arts to train, which of the two would you choose? |
And this isn't about being a badass or for self confidence reasons. It's to get back into shape and stress release. That's one of the reasons I was leaning towards Kung Fu...it's better for the soul. But then again, BJJ is better "just in case". :)
|
i prefer Brazilian Jujitsu better but that's my personal choice!
|
Muay Thai for mash you up hardcore combat or Tang soo do, Moo duk kwan for traditional korean martial arts as trained by the US army.
|
|
BJJ will get you in better shape than Kung Fu, unless they include some sort of conditioning.
Muay Thai is what I have trained for 2+ years and I don't think there is another style that can get your cardio and fitness level up as high. Wrestling is also another style that can get you could results. |

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. End of conversation.

BJJ is good for your mind. It's very mental and tactical :2 cents:

they both can be forms of stress relief. bjj will get you in shape quicker than kung fu via sparring. most kung fu in the states are useless and are more for choreography. so unless the kung fu style is san da, i would go for bjj.
btw i love the misconception that bjj is better for just in case scenario. every martial arts is effective. everytry to pull guard in the street only to get soccer kick by his friend? i rather throw a motherfucker on concrete then to use bjj. judo ftw |
I dont the BBJ will work 2 on 1
So you lock one guy up in a a submission move while the other guy kicks your head in I would do Thai boxing and mix that with parkour Otherwise I would just buy a gun thb |

Or at least the Jews turned Jesus over to the Romans to be killed. Haven't you ever seen the Passion of the Christ? |
For stress relief just have a wank. :1orglaugh

I'd totally go with Krav Maga, why not study the art of killing with your bare hands? lol

BJJ is first and foremost a self-defense martial strategy. There is no martial art in the world that deals with realistic fight situations. Judo use to super bad ass back in the old days because it had a lot more newaza. Today, Judo is a water downed version because of all the rules imposed by the Olympic committee. BJJ encompasses Judo throws and wrestling take downs with a heavy emphasis on ground technique. "Pulling guard" is mostly used in sports jiu jitsu and is never taught as a self-defense strategy.
BJJ has already been proving to be the most effect fight system in the world when Royce Gracie fought in the UFC. The UFC back then had no rules and a fighter would fight up to three to five fights a night. Royce dominated the UFC for about three years. BJJ will get you in shape and also exercise the brain. The warm ups and live sparring quickly add muscles and crazy cardio. All the moves that you learn, body positioning, submissions become your tools as you roll. The mind body connection is constantly evolving because you get to roll with different level belts, body types and ages. BJJ is not for every one though. BJJ is a contact sport with extreme human contact. Some people don't like being touched or hugged. If you are not comfortable with close contact then BJJ is not for you. Give BJJ a try for about a week to see if you like it. |
Kung Fu for the win. Not only will thousands of years of culture and training in the ways to kill make you a bad ass, it will also make you a better person.
If you get a chance to train in Five Animal styles, do so. In a streetfight, you can bust out Tiger style to break their will, or Crane style to poke out their eyes. Make sure you find out if you are training in northern fist or southern leg. That can make a HUGE difference in your training. I'd stay away from that BJJ stuff, it's not really feasible for the street at all. I saw this stupid video the other day about one of those BJJ trainers from Australia who said BJJ was good for a street fight, I almost died laughing! I mean who fights like that? Seriously, who wants to go to the ground, there's broken glass, dirty needles, and who knows what. Who wants to do that?! Kung Fu all the way! |

My grandmaster was korean and studied since he was a child. When I met him last, watching him kick apples from the end of original samurai swords, 10 feet in the air, I was impressed & followed the Moo Duk Kwan martial arts until I had reached Black belt. Unfortunatly, due to circumstances, family & work, I could not or have not had the time to continue training Moo duk kwan. Amusingly, When studying Muay Thai, I cannot help but stand in a Moo Duk Kwan stance & use most of the spinning & jump kicks that originally was designed to kick the troops from their horses. Great for head shots, powerful & fast. Luck with finding your martial arts... maybe between the 2 I would personally try brazilian jujitsu. This can be used in many more situations that can show non aggression & can be simple to dissarm opponents in everyday situations :) |

First, you have to stalk Chris Mallick, man.
|
I've seen a porno Kung Fu video where a man spins around in circles on top of a woman while his dick is in her pussy. This seems fun.
|
Kung Fu, no doubt. You will learn how to fly and shit at advanced levels.
Besides show me one BJJ guy that skips across water and can paralyze an attacker with three quick strikes to the body. It aint no mystery that UFC only became popular after David Carradine died, he would not stand for that shit. |

http://cgi.ebay.com/Jiu-Jitsu-Authen...#ht_500wt_1156 At least with Kung Fu, you know if you train with an asian guy you are getting the real shit. Can't say the same with BJJ. I heard a white guy with a brazilian accent teaching it. |

I'd personally suggest Krav, but since it's not an option.. BJJ for sure.
I know mostly Krav, but also know some BJJ, Aikido, and random techniques from a bunch of other styles. Krav/BJJ are my strong points, though. No where near JustDave and Anthony.. lol To me, a combo of Krav and BJJ... you can't get any better. Of course, the best option in any fight is to attempt talking your way out of it.. that is the best self-defense. If it's not an option, learn BJJ/Krav :thumbsup |
