What's your average bottle of booze cost in the states?

Say your average 26 oz bottle of whiskey. A six pack of beer. A 12 case of bottles? Etc etc. I'm curious what the difference in taxation is between Canada and the US on liquor.

bns666 03-03-2011 07:03 AM

you couldn't check that in online shops?:)

The price of beer and cigs in Canada is just insane.

I can buy a pack of cigs and a six pack in most US towns for the price of
one pack of cigs in Canada. Small towns of course, not New York City.

There is no average price because we can buy absolute crap beer and liquor for
next to nothing or spend 3-5 times more for the same type but better quality.

A good bottle of whiskey will set you back around $30. If you want to go cheap, I've seen some brands as low as $9. I wouldn't touch that shit though.

6-pack of beer really depends on the brand as well. You can get Bud or Coors for around $5 a six pack and $8.99 for a 12 pack. If you get something imported or an IPA...they generally run higher, as much as $25 for a 12 pack. Or you can go the cheap route and get some Milwhacky's Best for $3 a sixer.

Regular cigs (Marlboro, Newport, Parliaments) are around $8 a pack...$4 - $5 if you buy the cheap shit like 305's or Dorals.

average usa:
case of domestic beer = 16 bucks
bottle of vodka rum whiskey = 20 bucks
cigs = 7-9 bucks

whiskey, anywhere from $10 to >$100...something average, drinkable, probably have to figure $25...

So basically about half the price we pay up here. I knew we were getting raped on taxes for booze and smokes, I just was curious how badly...

MrBottomTooth 03-03-2011 08:12 AM

24 cans of Budweiser runs about $40 here. Pathetic.

yeah living on a border city you really learn how badly we get taxed for shit... not just booze either, gas too!

right now it is cheaper to pay 8 bucks for tunnel tolls, fill up at the duty free gas station and come right back than it is to just buy gas at the local pump....

I know people who buy nothing in Canada right now, the price gaps are just so different and the exchange is practically at par.

I have some buddies who are treaty Indians. I know just how bad the taxation on everything is, I was just curious what things cost in the states in comparison.

The exchange rate makes it even worse right now. It just makes sense to buy shit out of the US right now. My eBay whoring is in overdrive...

I'm pretty sure that's $42 in Ontario.

There is such a big difference. It just depends. There really is no average. You can get bottles of booze for 5 bucks and some for 50 bucks. Depends on the quality.

This is how Canada pays for health care for all citizens, hike taxes paid by the same people that are most likely to need health care.

In Minneapolis here, a liter of Grey Goose is $33. Southern Comfort runs about 24.
