What are dress shirts (that are meant to be worn without a tie) called?
Ive gone to a bunch of stores looking to find a good dress shirt that is meant to be worn without a tie ("standalone shirts") but I cant seem to find anything. All of the shirts are fairly plain looking with a high top button and a very low 2nd button.. as in its clear that the shirt is meant to be worn with the top button closed.
Anyone know where I can find good looking dress shirts? |

A 'dress shirt' is by nature ment to be worn with a tie. Tho some are more casual. If you are looking at shirts with a spread, point, or a tab collar - they are intended to be parternered with a tie.
Here is an example of those collar styles http://knol.google.com/k/men-s-shirt-collars# It's common to see a button down collar, wether traditional or a 'hidden type' worn sans tie. I think what you are looking for is a mans 'casual' or 'dress casual' shirt with a collar. Stylish shirts of this type, probably wont be found in your local discount stores. I'd suggest Neimans or Nordstroms. You could also look into various printed type shirts, some more garish than others. Ask Brad from MojoHost, I'm sure he can direct you towards his supplier :) |

thanks :)
most of these stores dont have sized shirts.. only S M L XL.. im looking for shirts that are 15 neck / 35 arm length and these are hard to find (small is too small and medium is too large). what are some stores that have these sizes? |
"Fitted shirt" is how I know them.

Shirts that have sizes like 15, 16.5 etc. are usually dress shirts. They are usually a bit longer, because you were them inside your pants.
The M, L, X ones are usually the ones to wear without a tie. They are a bit shorter so you can wear them over your pants. Burberry has nice "non-dress shirts". they are nice and not super expensive. http://www.groovyline.com/media/cata...te-shirt-2.jpg http://www.groovyline.com/media/cata...ck-shirt-2.jpg |

You can wear dress shirts without ties, as long as it doesn't have a tab collar. |

They may not have a name, but I know what you mean. You are looking for a dressy shirt that you can wear without a tie but still look business-like and after-work / bar casual too, right? Button down are nice but are a little hard to find (for me anyway). Try asking for a "fitted" shirt or one that is tapered instead of straight, and made to sit over the top of your pants or jeans instead of being tucked in. This kind of shirt is more form fitting, and looks casual and dressy at the same time.

They are called Van Heusen Men's Banded Collar dress shirts available from JC Penny online, in many colors including white at around $24.00

Shirts
Every major city has a custom shirt maker. Expensive both worth it. I'm a size 15 shirt, but a 17 neck. I buy a 17 shirt so can wear a tie, I look like a kid in his father's shirt. You can buy 5 JC Penney's shirts for the price of one custom, but you'll feel better & you look so much better.
