iwantchixx 01-19-2003 07:21 PM

I have 3 boxes on a LINKSYS router ... it is pretty much Plug 'n Play

Once in a blue moon things go a bit buggy, I just recycle the router ... maybe once a month for good measure ...

What he said, but if that doesn't do it, give us an idea of your spicific config. (are you using a hub, swhitching hub, how many pcs... etc).

Sorry :( tech term

Unplug the power source for maybe 20 seconds ... killing any "memory"(resetting the factory presets) ... and then plug it back in :thumbsup

xxxcam 01-19-2003 07:38 PM

DSL connected to the linksys router, from router i got 2 pcs connected... like im om icq, then it gets me offline after 5 min and back online...

btw i had netgear, it sucks... linksys much faster altho it's cheaper then netgear :feels-hot

admin is 192.168.1.1

pc1: 192.168.1.100
pc2: 192.168.1.101

TheDr 01-19-2003 07:40 PM

Ok, an experiment, have you tried switching pc1's port connection with pc2's port connection ?

xxxcam 01-19-2003 07:43 PM

yep...

TheDr 01-19-2003 07:43 PM

Sorry sometime I don't complete my thoughts. What I ment was to see if you get the same problem with the other pc configure like the problem pc.

:) I inadvertantly do that anyways whenever my cable company does work on the system, which is about once a month, and I have to reacquire my ip.

xxxcam.. I'm a cheap bastard, so I'm betting the netgear was on sale the day I bought it, lol. I haven't had any problems with it, though. *knock on wood*. Hope your problem gets fixed soon...

TheDr 01-19-2003 08:10 PM

OK, I got shit to due, so here's my final comment (for now). If swapped out both pcs, cabling and ports and the problem pc is still a problem, then I would suggest you do the following:
Pull the box cover, take it outside, get a can-o-air, and blow it out. check the nic card make sure it's properly seated, check the nic socket, and blow it out, and try again

emailtrader 01-19-2003 08:17 PM

If that fails, chuck it out the window, youd be suprised how often that works lol

:glugglug

xxxcam 01-19-2003 08:26 PM

Any chance that the hostname for your router is the same as the hostname for the PC that's having problems? I had a client that had those same symptoms, and that's what the deal was.

BJ 01-20-2003 01:02 AM

you need to adjust your mtu settings... isps do this shit to force you to buy equipment from them....
