I just found my friends host is stealing error page traffic!

Is this normal?

The 403 error redirects to a nakedhosting page with a bunch of ads on it.

Seems shady to me. :disgust

WarChild 02-25-2011 12:00 PM

Is it possible that they give him the ability to change this to his own page and that this is their default?

alias 02-25-2011 12:04 PM

Almost all shared hosts do this, eg: hostgator.

CaptainHowdy 02-25-2011 12:05 PM

Oh, noes!

That seems f'ed up. I'm not paying to advertise their site. And what if I don't want a custom 403 page?

Agent 488 02-25-2011 12:39 PM

O.K. she actually has a $500 a month dedicated server and had no idea about this. Also her 404's redirect.

I'm going to fix these pages for her, she is not very tech savvy just blown away a host would do this.

kacy 02-25-2011 12:54 PM

Kalic please have your friend contact us and we can certainly change out the error page pages to custom for her. Sounds like she has been with us for a long time. We stopped adding our default error pages years ago. Please have her contact me and I will make this right for her, thank you :)

Agent 488 02-25-2011 12:57 PM

get a better deal on server price as well. she probably is getting raped.

blackmonsters 02-25-2011 02:04 PM

$500 a month, and she's been there for years? Sounds like she's overpaying. Is it managed or unmanaged?

If unmanaged, I'd definitely recommend SecuredServers.com, they have awesome prices and they're the best host I've ever been with :thumbsup

HomerSimpson 02-25-2011 08:36 PM

that's easy to fix...
have some ideas in here...
you can google for more..
