The Thing Prequel (pics and video)

The Thing 1951
The first time I saw the Howard Hawks visionary
film I was blown away. He set the tone for smart
horror based on science that films to this day
emulate. There are elements in this movie that
noticeably inspired directors from James Cameron
to Spielburg and everyone in between.

The Thing 1982
John Carpenter masterfully retold the story
bringing it into the modern world and set a
new standard in the process with it's moody
score and cinematography.

That film provided a glimpse of a Norwegen
research station whose inhabitants perished
on the threshhold of a new discovery.

The Thing 2011
The Prequel introduces us to the ill-fated
Norwegens on the eve of their discovery as
they stumble into something they could never
have expected...

I'm skeptical. Going to have to be alot better than the trailer to keep up with original or Carpenter's masterpiece.

Further proof that Hollywood is out of original ideas.

gideongallery 02-22-2011 10:06 AM

Agent 488 02-22-2011 10:07 AM

Carpenter's "Thing" begins after the Norwegian station's destruction
and although the characters briefly explore the ruins not much is
discovered about what actually happened there.

This new film is all about those foreign researchers and how they
first discover everything and ultimately lose control of it.

= prequel

Doesn't look very good honestly. Carpenter's version was a masterpiece. As soon as I seen that CGI creature I cringed. The real makeup effects were one of the best parts of the 1982 version, along with the awesome soundtrack and Kurt Russell in his prime.

edit: just noticed they are using scenes from the video game Dead Space or something like that around 1:44 in. Hopefully the real version has better effects.

What the fuck is up with Hollywood, no one has an original idea anymore. First it was "True Grit" then "The Mechanic" now "The Thing" all fucking re-models
We need more original films like Alien, Predator, Salt, Wanted, etc etc.

LmMFao, that "trailer" you're talking about is a fan-made fake!

RE Alien = "Prometheus" (prequel)

I know, that is why I said they appear to be using a scene from the Dead Space video game in it. Didn't realize it at first viewing.
