Mpeg1 file sizing
How many meg/minute to you guys encode your MPEG1's.
Not WMV or MOV, Mpeg1 I ask because some guy asked for 1 - 2.5 meg /minute mpegs. they look kind of crappy. I'm a decent encoder, I understand mpeg algorithms, it just looks crappy. Anyone got any advice? |
For 2.5mb you should be able to get a near perfect 30 second clip. But i guess it depends on the frame rate you use and the difference in initial to final bit rate.

Good luck, I use 6 megs per minute and the quality is the best.
Ulead Media Studio Pro with custom settings. Can go fullscreen as well (I hate locking mpegs in). 2.5 megs per minute is going to suck either in kbps or screensize or SOMEthing has to give. Tell him MPEG is not a format to use if he wants tiny filesize. |

I have goofed with everything from the GOP to the IBp's I can't get a good looking clip..... Quote:
I go 10 megs/minute a clip for quality mpegs I know I can go smaller but 10 is a reasonable size to work with. I have a couple encoder tools. Some are just over kill for this stuff. I use premiere / cleaner or just plain old Microsoft movie maker. I down loaded the new Media player 9 tools, they do a nice job but the file output is obviously limited.... It's tough working with some of these folks. Thanks for the replies. |
You mean it's unreasonable to expect 2.5 meg 1 minute clips that look crystal clear? :winkwink:
I know the feeling, people who have money but don't 'get' how things work are the most dangerous. |
