Taylor Swift is Apparently "It"

So this morning I am delegated with the task of grabbing some Taylor Swift tickets for the GF, her daughter and friend. So starting at 10A I am on the website, and you can't get anything at 10:01 for best available. I call the number, busy.

I try for the better part of an hour, seems sold out. So I figure what they hell, I will check some places within driving distance, or a puddle jumper flight. Same thing. Line still busy.

While passing the time doing captcha and redialing busy I see tickets went on sale today for her in something like 12+ venues. I finally get through to the system. I try a few times with the number of tickets, and default to operator.

Most of the different places are sold out. Other than the tickets the venue has on hold. I literally tried 6 different cities, including 4 in other states that you could co-inside with vacation schedules, and best that was available was Columbus, Ohio with 4 seats scattered to the wind.

I guess this kid is "it" as far as concerts and shit go. Damn.
:disgust

Awful news ...

bronco67 02-18-2011 09:41 AM

To call Taylor Swift mediocre is an insult to mediocrity. I saw 20 singers on American Idol last night with more talent than that corporate robot.

the best way to get tickets for things like that are fan clubs (they set aside a # of tickets for fans, usually sold as pre-sale on the artists website), amex pre sales, etc.

You can say that about most musicians really, today and twenty years ago. What made the Beatles great? Right place, right time. Before the Beatles made it big they were drug addicts and perverts so desperate to make money they were living in Germany and performing in dive bars there.

It's just like any product. You have a great product, but if no one knows about it, you won't make a dime. You can have an average product, and with the right marketing you'll make bank.

Oh believe me, I know its all about timing and marketing. I'll disagree about the Beatles though -- I think they had a little something special.

Tom_PM 02-18-2011 10:00 AM

She is clearly a very talented singer and song writer. I got nothin against her. I'd like to hear her try some hard rock once in a while.

czarina 02-18-2011 10:01 AM

we are in the wrong business

ExtremeBank_Adam 02-18-2011 10:05 AM

I bought a few on StubHub for my wife and daughter. Paid twice the face value, but got really good seats.

for one, taylor swift doesn't wriite her own songs..

NaughtyRob 02-18-2011 10:58 AM

She is it. She is the biggest thing going right now in music. 4 straight dates at the Staples center in Los Angeles all will sell out if they have not already.

Tom_PM 02-18-2011 11:08 AM

Who writes her songs then?

She won BMI's Songwriter of the Year in Nov 2010. I'm sure they'd like to know the scam.

sinclair 02-18-2011 11:08 AM

See you in Columbus.

Hit me up I will come down and we can grab drinks while the rest of your party under goes invasive interrogation techniques that are even banned in third world countries.

That's the same process as buying tickets for any event nowadays. The resellers have destroyed Ticketmaster for the average person.

I don't mean to say the Beatles were crap. I'm not a fan of the Beatles, but clearly they changed the world of music and was the most influential rock band ever. But they were one band of thousands in that scene at the time, and it was a matter of luck that they broke through the way they did. And that's the way it is with most bands. For every band that makes it big, there are ten thousand that no one ever hears of.

Rochard 02-18-2011 11:37 AM

I get Rolling Stone magazine and for some time they've been talking about how concerts are failing. Sorry, but I'm not paying $95 for an average seat to see my favorite band. The prices they charge are just insane. Plus once your inside it's $6 for a hot dog, $40 for a shirt, and god only knows what else. Between tickets, food, and a few t-shirts your gonna be out $500 quickly.

My favorite one was a Dave Matthews Band concert my wife and I went to a few years back. Security wouldn't let my wife past with her key chain, which was a Dave Matthews Band keychain with a huge hook on it... That we bought the year before in the same arena. Whatever, we ditched it, went inside, and bought a new one.

Why are the Beatles and Taylor Swift being discussed in the same thread?

Jeez people.

Way more talent than, kei$ha, or BEP's, & many other pop acts.

The Heron 02-18-2011 12:00 PM

I'd like to fuck her until she breaks

justinsain 02-18-2011 12:05 PM

Last year I bought my Niece two tickets to Taylor Swift and gave them to her for xmas.

The concert just happened to be on her 18th birthday and she also got dinner and a limo.

That year I was the best Uncle EVER :)

BTW, I bought the tickets online thru Ticketmaster as soon as they became available and paid face value. Keep trying, it will be much appreciated :thumbsup

she is very, very popular in counrty... pop too I think

kane 02-18-2011 01:23 PM

She sold out the Staples center in Los Angeles in about 2 minutes last year.

Unless you get lucky, have a connection or are willing to pay a lot more than face value, good luck getting tickets. Right now she is one of the hottest acts in the world. I tried to buy tickets for my two nieces last year. Tickets went on sale at 10am. Like you I tried the website while also trying the phone. On the phone I got through to a person at about 10:07 and they were sold out by then. Pretty crazy.

As for her writing, my understanding is that she co-wrote all or most of the songs on her first two albums, but on her newest album she wrote all the songs on it herself without the help of a co-writer.

Lol! Jealous much?

I'm not crazy about country music but I've seen her performer on TV a few times and she has a nice voice, good stage presence, lots of talent, and she's cute as hell too.

Only thing I don't like about her is how fake her persona is. In real life, I've never seen her in anything other than designer clothes and dating the most famous men on Earth, yet her songs are all about being the ugly girl or the girl nobody notices.

I know all artists have a persona, but at least they are somewhat based in reality. For example, the rock stars talking about booze and womanizing usually actually do that, the rappers talking about cars or rims actually live like that, etc. It just seem country music is the most fake with millionaires talking about not being able to afford gas in the pick up truck or whatever. Like I said, I understand all artists are fake, but she seems to be the worst offender in that regard.

I think most of her songs (at least the ones where she talks about being the ugly girl nobody pays attention to) are from when she was a kid. She says she was awkward in school and didn't have a lot of friends so she was never cool or popular. I don't see why that is so hard to believe. She comes from a pretty well off family and she started trying to be a singer early in her life, but that by no means makes you popular at school. Kids can be jealous and spiteful and will tear you down when you try to do things.

Now she wears nothing but designer clothes and dates famous dudes, but I would guess when she was 13-16 that wasn't the case and a lot of her songs are aimed at that time in her life.

I will agree with you that a lot of country music is very fake. They get someone to write a song, get a good looking person to sing it and sell it to you as sentimentality. Swift, I believe, writes mostly from the heart though. She isn't broke and she is no longer unpopular, but I think there was a time when she was kind of the uncool kid in school and she taps into that in some of her songs.

thickcash_amo 02-18-2011 04:11 PM

She is super cute and has a crap load of popular songs so I can see why she would sell out so fast
