Tablet / Ipad discussion - I need help.

which is better?
apple vs android vs ?

do they all offer GPS?

ruff 02-15-2011 04:10 PM

Android is best in my opinion. They all have GPS.

If you have to buy an ipad, wait for the iPad 2 (rumored to be coming next 1-2 months)
If you can wait to buy a tablet in general, I'd say the longer you wait the better

JP-pornshooter 02-15-2011 04:49 PM

its funny, the software and the applications are there, for once the hardware is actually "slacking". and by that i mainly refer to the android tablets.

candyflip 02-15-2011 05:11 PM

I wouldn't worry about buying one for a few months.

If you'd like something to play around with in the meantime, grab yourself a Barnes and Noble Nook Color for $250, root it and you've got a kickass Android tablet that rivals the others available this moment for peanuts.

plsureking 02-15-2011 05:17 PM

bought my wife one of these. beats the shit out of an ipad. 2gb memory and windows 7.

I woud wait as well... that's what I actually do...

Seth Manson 02-15-2011 10:04 PM

I have an Ipad and love it, but with a new one coming out you may as well wait for it.

Or get one now and sell it when the new one comes out.

facialfreak 02-15-2011 10:40 PM

Wait until March / April

This bad boy is gonna raise the bar on tablets according to many market research firms ....

Ipad 2 won't be in shops until the end of the year, I wouldn't wait, because thats a neverending waiting, there will be new technologies coming out all the time.

seeandsee 02-16-2011 05:26 AM

iOS looks better from app side

I bet you 100 bucks it's out before june.

ruff 02-16-2011 07:35 AM

I didn't wait and bought a Samsung Galaxy. Pretty awesome and does what it needs to do. Fills a niche and replaced a netbook. Everyone that is waiting really don't have a clue.

The Tab is a nice unit, but really doesn't compare to any of the models we'll see in the next few months. Even Samsung will be rolling out a better spec'd model soon.

I don't care when its officially released, but when it will be easy to buy. The first few months it will be sold out and offered on ebay for crazy prices. But I still think they won't officially release it before the summer.

DudeRick 02-16-2011 09:30 AM

AT&T just dropped the price on their IPad stuff, which means the IPad 2 will be out very soon!

what does it do?
i am looking for something which can do GPS applications without the cellular connection some units require. as a matter of fact i dont want 3g/4g at all, just use wifi when needed.
dont need it for making phone calls, thats what i have a phone for..

obviously big minus that you cannot watch flash on the I-pad..
not so sure apple did the right thing there.

plsureking 02-16-2011 08:19 PM

most devices on a proprietary OS are a waste of time unless you don't mind your functionality being limited. blackberry is a very limited functionality machine and their tablet will be too. it will just be a large phone.

the ipad/iphone OS is proprietary but at least they have the app store.

android is a great OS too with a lot of crucial apps needed to run a web business. i have an LG gw620 phone running on android and i love it. i think the Galaxy is on android?

the lenovo tablet netbook i mentioned earlier is an awesome machine that can be used as a simple tablet or a full netbook. means you can actually work on it or just read ebooks/surf/watch movies/play games. my wife and/or i use it every day.

My Galaxy has 3g and wifi. We use wifi in the house. Does GPS pretty good. The phone is disabled in our (American) version, not so in the Euro version. Makes a nice little portable to do limited tasks on, not serious work. I've been using it to check out the mobile site I'm building. Using mp4 files the Galaxy just plays them without any embedding or flash code. Plays Flash with no problem as well. Surprising fast little units as well.

My wife loves it, I prefer bigger everything. Samsung has just come out with a 10" 4g version of the Galaxy. No doubt that in the coming months they will get better and cheaper. I read that there is a Chinese company getting ready to drop a 7" Android Honeycomb tab on the market for about $300. You can bet Apple ain't going to get cheaper, they will come out with smaller, spartan units at a lower price with the Apple name, but personally I'm done with Apple. I gave my MacBook to my 7 year old son till I can get him a Linux box set up.
