Damn,that's a lot of snow:)

Profits of Doom 02-02-2011 06:34 PM

I drove through Chicago yesterday around 2 PM and they actually did a pretty good job of keeping the I-90/94 clear. The ice storm I drove through in Indiana the night before was WAY fucking worse, I had to pull off I-70 and get a hotel the roads were so fucking slippery...

You got lucky man, some people were stranded for 10+ hours in gridlock traffic. It started coming down at 4inches+ an hour with 70mph wind gusts in the early evening hours.

I lost power for about 4 hours, all roads coming in and out of my house were shutdown because they couldn't clear the roads fast enough.

I figured the worst was yet to come. I had heard 24 inches was expected but I didn't know the time frame, and I had to get to North Dakota so I just hoped for the best. There was a ton of blowing snow across the highways fucking up the visibility but other than that I got through ok. I fucking hate trying to get through the 90/94 during rush hour so I made sure I got there early enough to not have to deal with it.

The night before Indiana and Ohio got blasted with an ice storm. When I left the hotel in Indiana yesterday morning my truck was encased in a huge sheet of ice that took me forever to get through...

Yeah, I hear you on that man. 90/94 can be a nightmare, glad you made it through okay. :thumbsup

I went out today and was pretty impressed. The main roads are all clear enough to drive which for 24 hours after a record breaking blizzard, is pretty good. The suburbs were all pretty drivable.

Spunky 02-02-2011 07:27 PM

I'll take the rain any day over that shit

It depends on where you live man! The road leading to my house was closed until almost 2pm. I live in Lake County though.

I didn't go out until like 6 p.m. but earlier I'm sure the roads were worse. Even when I went out, the main roads were decent but you had to check before turning anywhere because you could end up in an area that was not plowed. But yeah, I stuck to the very main roads, anything beyond that looked hit or miss at best.

In my opinion, that's the least of Chicago's detractions.

we got hardcore fucked here in ohio. I live in a rural area where the plow comes thru 1x per day and we live on a main state route, so you'd think theyd keep it clean but nope.

The first night of the blizzard I had to go to the store and thought 71 was gonna be decent cuz the semi trucks kinda maul the fuck out of the snow on the road... yeah... i was no match for it.. it was tough going for the 20 mile trip I had to make. took me 2.5 hours to get some pizza and pick up some pills from the store.

Then, the next day, we get blanketed with about 3" of SOLID ice. you could fuckin ice skate all through my driveway and shit. still can. It's not gonna melt for a while.

Driving through Indiana BLOWS....If it's cold, it's colder in Indiana..If it's snowing, it's snowier in Indiana...If it's raining, it's RAINIER in Indiana....Only thing about Indiana is that the traffic is mainly light until you get into Illinois.

They had a warning on the Weather Channel about shoveling. Over 60 people got heart attacks just in the city of Chicago from shoveling when we got hit in 1999.

It's not an easy task trying to shovel nearly 2 feet of snow with -20 wind chill air blowing on your face!

That might be due to the fact you're no longer in Indiana. Fatfoo would probably know for sure though.

Itchy 02-03-2011 10:32 PM
