PPC vs. Organic Performance

Here is a question for some of you internet marking Gurus.

Two websites.

One is 100% ppc and the other is 100% organic.

Let's say you are trying to generate leads selling widgets in your area.

Which traffic is more likely to register, create a lead and bring you a sale??

PPC will, and probably a lot more than an organic site.

why do you think that is? Surfers view paid ads as more trust worthy? or is it because paid ads appear above organic results, so PPC kinda gets first dibs at converting the surfer?

When it comes to leadgen or product based sales, ppc has always done better. As to why, my guess is because its indicated as sponsored links, they're expecting a product. I may be wrong, but that's the way I've seen it.

This is a good thread. =]

I've read a recent article where the guy was selling the same widget and had two websites.

100 PPC and 100 SE.

The 100 SE site had a better conversion.

So many variables, one of which is the type of product and the nature of the PPC and organic results. I imagine there are some products where a user will feel more comfortable with the a PPC direct, whereas other trust the organic result due to the nature of the product/service marketed.

Hmmmmmm, interesting results from other people :)

To many factors to say somethin about it.

Organic if you are within the first two or three spots but after that its PPC.

WHen dealing with a product sale - they will look towards the sponsored ad's as it being exactly what they are looking for rather than the organic results witch could really be anything

but this has so many variables to give solid answer

This question is flawed..... the question should be which is more profitable, PPC vs organic

Lets sya you are targetting "clock widgets" and you rank number 1 for clock widgets and then also do PPC to compare the results, it would be more profitable to go with organic

Lets say "clock widgets" PPC KW costs $1.00 per click and the profit on clock widget is say $2 and you have to have 50 clicks to make a sale then you can see organic will be better.

PPC is only for brand building or selling if you have big value products, thats my 2p
