will free be the next move for pay sites?

as sales dive due to factors such as tubes, the economy and so on. will free be the next logical move?

rather than paying to join a site, the customer would say fill in a big form (so the data is sold on), or have to purchase a product or service to gain free access.

Or even simply enter by just agreeeing they are 18, and access free, but inside they have an advert as the start or end of each film they watch.

Why bother? Tube sites are free full version paysites. No forms needed.

hmm, i see your point but you can't find many related videos on tube sites, only 1 clip and onto the next one...

with a niche specific "free" paysite, it would have to upsell webcam shows for the models, donation boxes, a suggestion page for the next video shoot, penis pills and more...

im not sure if that would work but someone should try :winkwink:

true

but paysites offer pics and vids, plus you can download and save them.

tube sits just offer flash films.

still a market for pay sites.

the question is are people still happy to pay when tubes offer free.

BV 01-30-2011 12:28 AM

i figure about 60% of the people that used to buy memberships are happy stroking off to free blurry tube clips

this is why i wonder if going free is now the best way.

Think Product placement:2 cents:

Would you pay with the amount of free content out there? I wouldn't.

DVTimes 01-30-2011 12:38 AM

itsa a bit like the music biz.

a lot of new bands now see, free as a good way to make money.

they give away there music to build up a huge fan base.

a bulk of the fans will pay to see them live and buy murchandise.

at the moment tube sites are making the money and getting all the traffic by giving your content away free, so why not fight fire with fire.

mabe its about time we come to the conclusion people will not directly pay for porn, but may be happy to pay in some other form.

Also no one worries about credit card scams on free sites.

thats the point.

but i am sure there are sites you woulds love to be a meber of to see inside.

if you can access it free by simply having to say fill in a form every few days or somthing, I bet many would.

just think of the millions of hits some sites get each day. often opnly a handfull turning into pay customers. but if you could turn those millions into customers how amazing would that be.

DVTimes 01-30-2011 12:44 AM

it may be simply that you have to watch a few adverts to gain access to the site.

i bet firms would love to have there adverts be seen more.

sure some will be smug and say they do not want to be seen on porn sites, but a lot will think, great stuff, who cares if its porn, if they get sales from it.

DVTimes 01-30-2011 12:46 AM

or it could be done on a more local scale.

ie, they have to go into a certain store and spend x amount to be given a free voucher to your site.

DVTimes 01-30-2011 12:47 AM

Or it could be a case of, join your site and gain free access to another site (such as a dating site).

Not sure sure the people who "used" to buy porn are whacking off to tubes. I try to target an older audience and they seem to have no problem buying. A lot of people don't want to waste time clicking on 100 tube videos to find something that interests them.

I'm married and have a couple kids. I'm not wasting an hour to find that one girl who floats my boat. I'll pay for the site that delivers.

As the people who download torrents and surf tubes get older, move out of their dorms and parent's basements, make families, and have less and less free time, they'll want to be able to pop into a site for five minutes, rub one out, and crawl into bed.

$30 a month means nothing to someone with a half decent job and limited time.

DVTimes 01-30-2011 12:49 AM

Or mabe we adopt some sort of avs model.

ie, if you join your site you gain access to ALL ccbill sites or Nats sites.

The problem is they (corporates and other mainstreamers) care if it's porn. If they didn't care there would be no need for porn in the first place.

they care as they fear it may look bad on them.

however with times as bad as they are, some firms will care more about surviving than any moral problams.

if they can get sales by advertising on porn sites, then they will.

and once a few start others follow very quickly.

no firm will let there rivals get promotion and not try to get it themselves.

in truth many businesses in todays climate cannot be fussy.

Pay for porn only works if the site pornstar will also do cams, promotion, appearances at strip clubs and other events, and exclusive films. If the site pornstar won't do this, then forget the biz all together.

Just like the bands, a loyal following is the KEY to success. Learn, adapt or learn to flip burgers.

DVTimes 01-30-2011 12:58 AM

the truth is, people who like porn, buy car insurance, food, hollidays, tv's, mobile phones and so on.

If firm a does not want to advertise on your site, firm b will and will make a lot of money.

leg4 01-30-2011 01:07 AM

Shitty companies have jaded customers over the years....giving them crappy members areas and upselling them other sites in shady ways (the user not really seeing it)

This....accompanied with the new generation that has had porn surrounding them in their every day lives all the time... which has caused them not to care about porn like we did as teenagers and in 20s

The paysite model is FAR from dead...Especially if the content is unique and fills a void. CONTENT is king. Sell the right product and the conversions are still there. I promise you, sales are still there!!

to be honest i have herd this a lot, but its starting to sound more each time as if its taken out of some cgeap marketing book, or some cheap self help book.

To be honest I am not convinced.

Its just sounds like a cool thing to say at some meeting, but has no real basis.

If its good, its probably now on a tube site or on forums.

Sure sites still sell, but less and less.

I never to be honest belive anyone that says there sales are increasing, unless they are getting far far far more hits.

I see more and more people saying there stats have gone from 1:100 to 1:10000 and more.

I personaly am getting a bit fed up with people smugly posting CONTENT is king and adapt or die, as its rather meaningless.

The truth is sales are falling.

Take a dating site I promote. I used to get several sales each month. Now its been 0 for a few months.

Bingo. CM's site has now had 3 straight record breaking months. We just do what we always did...which was make a site that I felt a big tit lover would enjoy and plenty of interaction. Not brain surgery or rocket science.

I could understand this, if I were trying to sell something. :1orglaugh

Here are some current numbers (no, these are not Duke Dollars numbers, but sales from a free site of mine that is 100% autopilot)...Believe that the sky is falling, or just push harder. It's your choice to accept defeat.

I see it everyday. The real trick is to find that unique content, test the waters with multiple sponsors and watch your stats. Over the last year, I have just watched conversion trends and moved sponsors in and out of rotation based on sales within a 48 hour period. Just by disabling a sponsor when it slows, and re-enabling when another slows keeps the sales coming and the promotions optimized.

I posted my stats MINUS any Duke Dollars sales a couple posts up. I'm not making millions via affil sales, but my numbers still aren't bad, and really supplement prepaid advertising, etc.

The point is, sales are STILL around. You just have to analyze your traffic. :thumbsup
