Here is a show idea for AVN and Xbiz, what do you think?

I've gone to a few VC get togethers where potential businessman pitch their idea looking for an investment (much like Shark Tank/Dragon's Den without the tv drama LOL). I was thinking last night it might be cool to have something like that at an AVN or Xbiz show. Potential candidates could submit their application to Avn/Xbiz and 3 to 5 are selected to present to a panel and audience.

If people are afraid their idea would get ripped the show could organize a private version of this. The benefit the show gets is giving potential investors and potential business owners a reason to attend. They could prepare the NDA documentation so everyone is protected.

What do you think? There are a lot of people with ideas that are looking for $$$ or partners and there are a lot of people with $$$ looking for ideas. Could be a good solution.

It sounds delicious top notch.

We are in the development stages for a number of different projects.
:thumbsup

Well, I think you might have a general idea of how well it would work. When you started the thread looking for ideas to fund, did you get any good ones that you are going to fund?

That is what convinced me there is huge potential for this. There are some really great opportunities that just need the right dancing partner.

Kind of like an adult version of DRAGONS DEN?

Great concept

TheStout 01-27-2011 12:45 PM

Absolutely great idea Shap

Roald 01-27-2011 12:47 PM

Like an NDA would matter with all these crooks around lol

I kind of like the idea though.

punker barbie 01-27-2011 12:50 PM

Rick Latona did this a few years ago. I heard it was a hit.

What's a good way to touch base with you.

I'd like to play Dragon's Den ICQ with you for 5 minutes.

I understand that. Sometimes it comes down to biting your tongue and never launching it or pitching the idea and finding a suitable partner.

true. i'm in a rare breed where i have the ability to come up with ideas as well as build & launch them, so i guess it's easier for me to bite my tongue. nonetheless, when i saw your 'seeking opportunities' thread i was *this* close to sending an email haha

edit: my post count is sexy right now...not gonna post for the rest of the day!

NDAs are a joke in any industry.

While I understand your concerns, this reply really makes me laugh. No offense to O.P..

A lot of people would love to just sit on their ideas, with no money or time to put behind them, and try and get 100% out of them. Instead, you could have someone else speed up the deployment if you have financing (or whatever) getting the idea to the market place.

I see this as a penny-wise, dollar foolish notion many in the online world in general do. I would rather have 25% of a great million dollar idea today, than try and save up for years to get in over my head trying for 100% of the profits. An unrealized, or developed, idea is worthless. Regardless of your evaluation in your mind.

Where is the like button on GFY?? Good Idea Shap..

Without getting into details I know of lot of webmasters that due to their current situation they can't move ahead with their idea because of capital reasons.. Divorce, poor credit, kids etc.. A lil money to start them out could be life changing..

ShellyCrash 01-27-2011 01:09 PM

What if it was more like shark tank / dragon's den and people applied to be on the panel of investors? People who want to present would have to be registered attendees and sign up at the show, set a limit to the number of presenters per day and each presenter gets a time block with a set amount of time to present their idea in a private audience to the panel.

Thoughts?

ShellyCrash 01-27-2011 01:13 PM

^ Private audiences with the panel wouldn't be a group participation event, but it would limit the ears open to the ideas to those interested in funding them and also, I think, could be a major value add to the price of the badge for up and comers.

no offense taken. and i agree with you in general. but i really mean 'this industry' (adult) and 'right now' literally. with all of the shit that's happened in within the last year alone, it's clear that adult is the wild west now (or should i say 'still').thievery is rampant and even applauded. fuckers can't even protect their content. how am i gonna protect an idea? :1orglaugh

and F U for making me mess up my sexy post count.... :winkwink:

That was what I meant. Maybe I didn't make it clear. A panel of investors listens to the ideas but obviously there could (and would) be other potential investors lurking in the crowd.

Mickey_ 01-27-2011 02:07 PM

I like it, I think your idea has legs.

xanadu 01-27-2011 02:14 PM

good idea as always Shap :)

As many said there are some aspects that need to be managed carefully to do it properly, but I also think there is indeed a need for this.

I hear ya fine sire.

I was simply saying that paraphrased remark is made every time some Shap makes a post about sharing or working together. In the end, most of those people will never 'realize' those ideas because, like the lotto, they are waiting for the perfect storm of cash, time, resources, etc... That you damn well know will never come.

:winkwink:

You could call it getting in the barrel because with this industries history someone is going to get fucked. lol

SZNY 01-27-2011 02:33 PM

Great idea, this industry needs new incentives and everyone knows it. In the past you could gather with a good idea (on paper) funding.

Now a days you have do yourself all the seed investments and realise a proven concept before you can go for 1-2-3 funding rounds.

There are a lot of talents with great ideas walking around and it would be a waste if they are never realised because of the lack of opportunities.

Btw it seems that Dragon Den formats are in everywhere now. Last week I even saw it here on the Czech Television :winkwink:

JayDeeZee 01-27-2011 02:51 PM

That's a cool idea. I've got an idea that I'd like to pitch

I got ya, the spin I was suggesting was to make it more of a private audience with the potential investors and less of an "event". True, you are limiting the investors to who gets approved for the panel, but you are also limiting the # of ears that hear the pitch, and insuring the only people the pitch is brought to are qualified to act on it.

Just a thought.

Wizzo 01-27-2011 03:22 PM

I would love to be a part of this! :pimp

Due 01-27-2011 03:39 PM

Sounds like a good idea!

I was pitched by a couple of people in vegas that wanted to invest but wasn't sure in what and where.

2MuchMark 01-27-2011 03:44 PM

Sounds like a great idea for sure. Ever watch Dragons Den? I love it.

It is a great idea, but I agree with Roald, the NDA will be worthless.

Nathan 01-28-2011 08:28 AM

If the Panel is small enough, and consists of well known people in the industry, and the NDAs are signed by well known companies, it might still not be bullet proof, but its an insurance.

Either case though, any investment will be based on ease to market also, since any investor will need to make sure that the system can not be easily copied even when released, to mitigate risk.

I like the idea.. if it get's done, would love to be on the panel...

I contribute with a slogan: "Milk The Meek"...

Theo 01-28-2011 09:37 AM

I like the idea. I do see issues if it's done in greater scale, but for a limited amount of people it will work just fine. I'll talk to our event organizers in order to introduce it this summer in Miami.

Theo 01-28-2011 09:38 AM

Thank you Shap :-)
