You're using a free service (gfy), funding has to come from somewhere (advertising). GFY has been sending out newsletters and email blasts for a while, I personally don't find them intrusive/too frequent. 2c

Hit delete and move on with your day. Or switch to decaf.

KB, gfy has been sending out paid sponsor promo emails for the last 5 years, Your old gfy account had a defunct email address attached to it that's why you never received them. Since your new fake nick now has a working email address you should get them now.
